“Anxiety of Influence” - Day 227 #DailyArt - Acrylic and photos on MDF board, spray painted mini-hurdles ~ 45” x 39” - After listening to the latest #ModernArtNotespodcast this morning, which featured Tyler Green’s awesome interview w/ Ann Temkin, the curator of #DonaldJudd ‘s first posthumous retrospective at the MOMA, I was inspired to create this today. - Judd’s “anxiety of influence” involved leaving the realm of painting, occupied by such heavyweights as Jackson Pollock and Barnett Newman, and moving towards sculpture, where he could really do his own thing and stand out. - I’d never really took much of a shine to Judd’s work, but after hearing Temkin talk about the ideas he expressed on use of light, space, and color, I’ve come to see things a bit differently, and tried to capture some of that feeling of the space of empty places in this piece (along with how I felt this morning which was a mix of blah, existential dread, and goofiness). - - - #TheArtOfEverything⁣ #UseWhatsAroundToMakeArt ______________⁣ -⁣ -⁣ -⁣ #collageart #boxart #emergingartist #primer_contemporary #contemporarycollage #pdxartist #sculpturecollage ⁣ #30dayartquarantine - ⁣ @tylergreenbooks @ann.temkin - thanks for a great discussion!
