Upcoming May we will have a new edition of the Alphen Art event in my home town of Alphen aan den Rijn. The organisers asked if I would be willing to create another statue floating in the water. I am considering this. ________________________________________ Last time there were some issues with the result, not surprising since it was my first attempt, so I decided to have an early start and test out some alternative methods of protective coating that I did not have time to test last time. ________________________________________ First up I want an alternative way to coat the styrofoam. The Paver pool plus Paver plast mix used last time was not bad, but it’s pretty darn expensive. I read online that DIY aquarium background builders used bathroom tile glue and decided to try this out. So far I love it. _______________________________________ You do need to add multiple layers to get a decent strength, but once you have, it feels solid. It also gives a stone/plaster look that's good enough to trick people into thinking it was made out of stone until they picked it up and feel how light it is. ______________________________________ You do see a lot of the brush strokes created when applying the glue which is a look not everyone would like. However, after several layers are added to create some thickness you can sand the last layer down to create a smoother finish. ________________________________________ Overall I love this method of coating and it’s about half the price of what I used last time. . . . . . #jaboscreations #styrofoam #styrofoamstatue #modernartstatue #modernstatue #styrofoamsculpture (at Zuid-Holland, Netherlands) https://www.instagram.com/p/Btf8SjRhfPg/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1fnqz2m9gc9ls
