10 Songs You Should Download Right Now.
I know it's sunday and tomorrow is the day I usually post these things but I have it done so I might as well post it now.
This edition has something different! I've decided to put all the songs in a compressed file that you can download by clicking the link at the end. I'll also put the "listen" link after each songs just in case some people are too lazy and don't feel like downloading all the songs. Let me know which of the two options you prefer and next time I'll just stick to one. Anyway, here are this week's 10:
10. What You Want by Evanescence.
While this new single by Evanescence is a pleasant surprise, considering that I had no idea they were even working on a new album, it is also one of the weakest songs they have ever released. What You Want doesn't suck by any means, but compared to their previous material this song feels lazy and uninspiring. So why is it one this list? Two reasons: one being that it proves that a new Evanescence album will come very soon, which is a welcoming notion, and second being that if you picture yourself listening to this song in a concert arena then the song instantly becomes good. What You Want is energetic and awesome and would work wonders at a concert, but at home it's simply okay. (Listen)
9. Placebo by ModernSexTrash.
Looking pass the brilliance of this song's artwork, the song itself is actually really good and intoxicating. Nothing out of the ordinary, but darkly energetic and features a great mix of Thrice-esque vocals and awesome guitar riffs. (Couldn't find a link for it so go download the entire thing)
8. He Needs Me by Jade.
I don't know exactly how I found Jade, but I remember thinking how weird and whiny her voice sounded. Even after listening to it countless times I still think her voice is a bit whiny, but He Needs Me is just one of those songs that stays with long after it ended. (See previous one)
7. I Am Animal by Neko Case.
When Neko Case's Middle Cyclone came out I remember being obsessed with it for months and months. It was an odd thing for me since I don't particularly like country music, but there was just something so attractive and interesting about her songs that i honestly couldn't stop listening. I love the imagery she conjures up with her lyrics, it's truly unique. (Listen)
6. A Heavy Abacus by The Joy Formidable.
The Joy Formidable's The Big Roar is rapidly becoming one of my favorite albums of 2011. The album is filled with high-octane rock songs all possessing an incredible chorus. This song is my second favorite especially for the awesome chorus, but a lot of it also has to do with the lead singer. Her voice is amazing and it has been a long time since a female voice from a band has captured my attention as much as this one. (Listen)
5. Home by The Suzan.
This song right is pure undeniable unnatural happiness. No matter how many times you listen to it or how you feel, it will cheer the hell out of I kid you not. (Listen)
4. Our Deal by Best Coast.
I've always been really interested by songs that sound cheerful and up-beat, but whose lyrics in fact deal with sad or in this case heart-breaking themes. That contrast between sound and lyrics is a bit misleading, but it also establishes the song as something ironic. Gnarls Barkley has made a whole career of adapting this technique and it works as well with them as it does with Best Coast. Moreover, Our Deal really reminds of Mad Men especially of those episodes where Don Draper goes to California. The whole vibe of the song just scream beach and summer, which is kind of perfect for right now. (Listen)
3. Hold On by SBTRKT.
A friend of mine recommended me SBTRKT since I like James Blake so much. While there are a few similarities between the two, each one sounds and feels really distinctive. SBTRKT is more up-beat and cheerful than James Blake, but equally chill and soothing. Hold On is my favorite track in his new album so far. I honestly cannot get enough of the vocals in this song, they're truly mesmerizing. (Listen)
2. The King And All Of His Men by Wolf Gang.
The lyrics of this song aren't anything extraordinary, but I dare you not to fall in love with it as soon as the chorus hits. The melody and vocals of this song completely accentuate the cheerfulness and instant likability of the song. Plus the cover art for their album, Suego Faults, is really endearing. (Listen)
1. Un Bel Di, Vedremo (From "Madame Butterfly") by Giacomo Puccini.
Throughout my life I've come across a lot of greats songs, as has everyone else, but you always remember those few songs that have impacted you emotionally. Those are the songs that you always remember and every time you hear them the experience becomes so intense that it completely overpowers you. This for me is one of those songs. (Listen)
As always, thanks for reading!
