Walked down towards the Barbican Arts Centre at lunchtime. I’ve often thought it a slightly strange place really. A prestigious arts and music venue built in the brutalist style, surrounded by residential flats in the same 1970’s design, which if it was anywhere elsewhere but in the City of London, would be a crime-ridden, drug-infested sink estate, where nobody would want to live and every Uber cab would avoid! But not here. Flats here are highly sought after and I imagine would be expensive. Concrete, Steel and Glass Clarke Hutton a lithographed vignette from his 1945 A Picture History of Britain, published for the OUP. An underrated lithographer, perhaps because his work in illustration was prolific and not a Gallery exhibitor.
