😭 Hold my muse when they are crying

The idea had been to bake cookies to make herself feel better, not to wallow and eat cookie dough right off the wooden spoon.
But here she is, sitting on the kitchen floor, wallowing, and eating cookie dough right off the wooden spoon in between sobs. At this point she’s pretty sure she’s been crying into the dough and there’s no point in even baking any of the cookies. And she’s pretty sure that each bite of dough is tasting saltier and soggier. She doesn’t even care anymore.
She’s not sure what time it is anymore – it’s late, that’s for sure – and then her father comes into the kitchen. She hadn’t even realized he was awake. ( Or maybe he hadn’t been awake, he’d only just woken up, prompted by that sixth sense he seems to have that knows when any of the three of them need him. ) She sniffles miserably up at him from her spot on the floor, and he’s by her side in half a second, sitting down beside her, gently extracting the mixing bowl from her grip, wrapping his arms around her to pull her in close, and asking if she wants to talk about it.
She doesn’t, and she shakes her head. But then she can feel him nod understandingly before kissing the top of her head, and she starts crying even harder, and choking out the whole story in between sobs. About how the boy she’d been going out with had decided at lunch to dump her even though the winter formal’s tomorrow, and then two classes later she’d seen him making out with some other girl outside the gym lockers and he’s such a jerk and boys are so mean and she hates them, and it’s not fair and she doesn’t know what she did wrong and why he doesn’t like her anymore and is she just not as pretty as the other girl? Or as smart? Or what? Why isn’t she good enough? Why are boys stupid?
And she just clings to him and sobs her heart out.
