Our Hyper-Reality: Google That $H!T --------------- I ran into this video, since I'm an Amazing Atheist fan, and Hallcyon is a friend of his. It's a bit long for a casual watch (although if you're like me, it's nice to listen to in the background while you're doing something else). I think it's a pretty good summation of my feelings of some recent events and how I feel about how Tumblr and other internet warriors handle issues, and I sure as hell couldn't put it as eloquently as this video. As someone with a lot of followers, could you raise some awareness of a current issue in the UK? At least 1,400 children as young as 11 were gang raped, abducted, trafficked, and beaten (including horrors such as being doused in gasoline and threatened with matches) between 1997 and 2013. The authorities were apparently aware of this but did nothing out of fear of being labeled racist because the majority of perpetrators were Pakistani Muslims. I haven't seen anything on tumblr about this :/

I was a little worried when the first thing that popped up was the Daily Mail, but I found out more information about this on other websites. I don’t trust Daily Mail because they post a ton of “cops didn’t arrest criminals for fear of being -blank-ist.” Here’s the info:

About Zoe Quinn

I've been seeing so many posts about Zoe Quinn. It's dying down a bit, but I wanted to point something out that I think isn't being expressed enough.

There is a lot of shit slinging at Zoe herself, and she is the center of the issue. The important thing to remember though is that Zoe has not committed a crime, and it isn't our job to harass her or seek justice. For the people she has hurt, it is their choice how they want to deal with their relationship with her. For her fans, it is up to them whether they want to support her still. For gamers not interested in that scene, the only real thing that can be done is to spread information. Zoe's reputation is tarnished, and that's as far as this should go. Everything else should be left up to those Zoe actually has to answer to.

I think the real focus should be on the writers and editors that exchanged sexual favors for publicity. They are the ones who didn't care about journalistic integrity, and that makes it harder to know if what they talk about they what actually like, or if they're just being paid off. Any fans of gaming news media should be pissed off at this turn of events. The news outlets have to answer to the people they betrayed, us. If they can't be trusted to write objectively, or at the very least be immune to bribery, then their reporting loses it's meaning and weight, and we shouldn't give them the traffic or the ad money they don't deserve.

I also understand a lot of people are angry at Zoe because they think she is ruining the reputation of women in the games industry. While that may be a possible outcome, I find it sexist that anyone would blame the actions of one person on an entire group of people, especially a group that is defined by characteristics they are born with. I know some women are angry because this hurts their opportunities, but the person who applies Zoe's actions to every women is the actual wrong doer in that case.

Anyway, feel free to rebut this, I know people are getting angry about the issue, but I feel the focus is in the wrong place.
