Hey guess what im still not dead
Anyway, here's an observation I made earlier today. So I grew up reading a lotta comics okay. Lots of X-Men, as well as stuff like Calvin & Hobbes and Peanuts. And now, I read a decent amount of manga. (Berserk is great btw, would recommend it)
So one of the biggest things I've noticed, and maybe this is just the bias talking, but western comics have always felt more... grounded to me. The events in them, even the REALLY crazy stuff, has always felt more plausible than the stuff that goes down in manga.
And I think it's mostly because of the art. Don't get me wrong, I love the art of manga. It's so seriously cool stuff. But I think the problem is that while western art tends to be closer to what actual people look like, manga tends to idealize people and pretty them up so to speak. And there's nothing wrong with that, but I think that what happens is that when you distort your characters in an attempt to make them more appealing, what often happens is that it makes them just a little but harder to relate to on a personal level, y'know?
Anyway sorry for the ramble, I just thought I should put this all in words
Have a nice day!
