The second of my moebook girls and the older sister of Nowell Codex!
The Exeter Book, or Codex Exoniensis, is a 10th century anthology of Anglo-Saxon poetry. It's also the largest known collection of Old English literature in existence - and even recognised by UNESCO as one of the "world's principal cultural artifacts". She possesses a vast collection of works ranging from over 90 riddles, religious homilies, and famous elegies such as The Wanderer, The Seafarer and the Wife's Lament. The Phoenix is also within her pages~
In truth, of the 4 major OE codices, Exie-chan is particularly close to my heart, containing two of my favourite poems (The Wanderer, and the Phoenix). Since her poetic works range across such a vast variety of tones and subject matter I wanted a design that capture both a sense of mischief and youthfulness, but also wisdom and melancholy. And somehow my mind thought of Gothic Lolita...~
