Snowdonia
Of all the illustrations and descriptions I have, that for Dactylorhiza majalis is probably closest but nothing I've seen online resembles this and I am still completely uncertain. I don’t think it’s common spotted as they have very deeply incised lower lips.
Also, I left my camera at home and had to rely on the phone as a substitute.
Also, I'm not going back there for some time.
Also... the forest road is being regraded so the flowers probably won't be there much longer.
Most ephemeral.
'Medium/tall perennial. Leaves broad oblong, bluish-green, sometimes dark-spotted. Fls lilac-purple (bright purple or reddish in mountains), the shallowly 3-lobed lip with darker lines and spots, spur short. May-July. Damp meadows, marshes, on lime. T. [hroughout Britain & northern Europe].'
