it could work quite nicely

kanaya doesnt have any other pale candidates, so that's not an issue

karkat has gamzee, but their moiraillegence is unhealthy and fuelled majorly by guilt and imposed responsibility at the end, rather than any strong pale feelings

they dont have any particular animosity towards each other, and i could see kanaya and karkat talking during the odd hours theyre up - as karkat would be mostly hivebound (due to the drones), and kanaya also (due to being in the middle of nowhere)

they both are quite rational people when not riled up by something, and do consider what the other person is saying

you could consider the relationship between the Signless and the Dolorosa also, as they got along in a very pale manner, for trolls, and the beta troll's ancestors are assumed to have somewhat similar personalities and dynamics to them

i also feel like kanaya would be more willing to accept karkat's mutant status, due to her becoming a rainbow drinker

kanaya could provide a responsive sounding board for karkat's ranting, to push it into a productive direction, rather than letting it spiral into a self-deprecating tirade

karkat could act as a voice of reason against kanaya's more questionable thoughts, instead of devolving into an overwhelmed and jumbled mess of feelings - allowing kanaya to come to a conclusion of her actual wants, versus hasty and not well thought out action

kanaya is a lesbian, however i could consider that as purely for concupiscent quadrants, as trolls' normalised sexuality and romantic orientation is bi, it's entirely possible that kanaya could be only sexually attracted to girls

i also feel like they both somewhat respect the other, even in canon, as both karkat and kanaya are approached for advice by various players (i.e. eridan, others)

in summary, there are no strong prior ties in canon that would impede this pairing, and i believe they would be good moirails for one another

Genuinely my evolving thoughts on moiraillegience have made me a lot more soft on the pale relationship Vriska and Terezi had at the end of HS. Especially that post (sorry, I can't find it) about how moiraillegence is a lot more intimate, even more so then a matespriteship. Not that they aren't attracted to each other in the flushed and pitch quadrants too, they absolutely are! But just the fact that they trust each other to keep them in line and emotionally regulated, and how that requires SUCH a strong level of trust, and truly knowing each other... god it makes me a little insane.

i don't understand why some people like vrisrezi as <3 when vrisrezi <> is so much better

not only do they fit the mutual protection/support/keeping each other sane part better, but they also have been at minimum, the others best friend for sweeps before the team charge debacle. they just don't seem like matesprits.

Other than meowrails, i see so little <> shipping but tons of <3.

maybe it's because im aromantic, but i understand and like moiraillegence better than matespritship.
