THATS MY WIFE :]
there is also smth so poignant i think about how in ow1 moira used to quote oscar wilde when she goes to the horizon colony telescope...
and how she, in some lines will quote macbeth...
how she finds kinship in the writer who had his whole life taken from under him and was once celebrated who died in exile from his homeland, who once wrote about a man who, despite appearances was rotting away and shriveled and it came back to bite him
how macbeth, the man destroyed by his ambition is a part of her vocabulary...
man now im sad
You know what I dont understand? How is it that people are so quick to dismiss all the "villains" of overwatch for their actions, but never Moira. Moira is most often portrayed as cold and completely evil. I really and truly do not understand what she has done that elicits this response.
Let's look at it from a canon, confirmed standpoint. The Junkers' only real goal appears to be to pillage and rob and cause mayhem wherever they end up. Doomfist's only confirmed objective is to plunge the world into conflict (war) in order to force it to change (into what we dont really know). Reaper's only goal seems to be revenge, again we dont know for what. Sombra only wants to acquire all the information she can and exploit it seemingly to her own benefit (which we dont know how she intends to do). Widowmaker is excused because of the whole brainwashing thing, but her goal is to follow whatever orders Talon gives her.
Moira's only confirmed, canon, actual desire? To progress humanity and extend our potential through scientific study.
She has not canonically killed anyone (arguable that she saved Gabriel, in fact, but again we don't really know). She has not canonically kidnapped anyone and experimented on them, and in fact backs down when Tracer declines to be studied. She has not canonically betrayed anyone, let alone Blackwatch/Overwatch. Shes only even mean to anyone in one voice line, and it was only after her research, her life's work, her passion, is attacked by Winston first. If she instigates the conversation she is actually very civil.
Moira O'Deorain is objectively a good person, and I will go that far. She does what she does with the intent of making people stronger. Making humanity better. She doesn't do it for herself. She doesnt do anything to be evil or malicious. She does it for everyone else.
What it boils down to is my complete and utter confusion that every other "villain" is able to receive pardons for anything they've done, but all the hatred that I see to Moira is based purely off of speculation. She broke some ethical standards. That does not mean she has no morals. That does not mean shes completely irredeemable. That does not mean she is inherently evil.
And just to avoid confusion, this is not me trying to say that the rest of the "villains" are irredeemable or that they should not be multifaceted, well rounded, complex individuals. That's what makes a good character! I just dont see why Moira gets singled out as the only one undeserving of being a person. A person that gets more than one side, that gets to be dimensional and seen in ways the others get to be seen in.
/end rant
NEW MOIRA SKIN HELLO
one of the unforseen consequences i think of blizzard having moira speak irish is the fact that there are three very distinct realities that could be portrayed here since irish does not have many speakers here on the lovely ol isle
either a, and the more sensible idea is that ireland has had a gaelic rerevival involving more widespread education in the language, the further integration of irish into the culture, etc.
b, moira learned it out of spite because she's a dubliner, who famously do not speak irish and she was getting tired of being left out of the native language ultimate voicelines
c, moira's actually from the gaeltacht
or d,
she's actually just a member of the fae folk/j
moira's parents headcanons:
moira has two dads. i can't explain it she gives me two dad household energy. she still talks to them. they're proud of her.
if you met her parents you would immediately understand why moira is like that. she was spoiled rotten and her interests were indulged as soon as she was old enough to hold a scalpel in one hand and a bug in the other.
one of them is an entomologist. moira, even if she didn't just go out and collect bugs would have been around them her whole childhood anyway. her first pet was a centipede, who her dad carefully explained the facts about as she held it for the first time, inching up her arm
although moira would never Admit it, she frequently visits them and often leaves with enough food to fill her fridge, and her cold storage for samples.
added moira as the 3rd mii to my tomodatchi life demo and my mii Immediately fell in love with her about 30 seconds later no questions asked
idk how I forgot to post this but my amazing girlfriend got me this custom moira photocard for christmas and I just needed to post it here LOOK AT MY WIFE
