Most of the websites created in my studio are built in LAMP environments. And for the PHP work I almost exclusively use the CodeIgniter framework by EllisLab. CodeIgniter performs well, is powerful and easy to work with, and has a large user base. Because of this I have a lot of faith in what EllisLab does.
That said I have always been less than impressed with their publishing product, ExpressionEngine. The experience design is quite ambiguous throughout and it seems cumbersome overall. Which is precisely why I was blown away when I discovered MojoMotor, their “publishing engine that does less.”
MojoMotor is one of the most simplified and logical CMS solutions I’ve yet seen. It’s exactly the type of system I’d expect from EllisLab. Integration is simple enough and I’m confident a child could easily learn how to use it.
It’s functionality is basically limited to the following tasks:
Edit content with a WYSIWYG editor.
Add/remove pages and re-order via drag and drop.
Manage layouts.
Manage users with admin and editor permissions.
For companies with simple CMS needs, MojoMotor is an excellent candidate. And at $50 it’s easy on small budgets.
