More than 3,000 people were displaced after heavy rainfall unleashed flooding in the market town of Mokwa in Niger state.
Heavy rain that began falling early on Thursday submerged the town of Mokwa, a major trading and transportation hub west of Abuja, where traders buy beans, onions and other food. The deluge washed away sections of roads and bridges and left some buildings almost entirely underwater. On Friday, the death count rapidly soared from 21 to more than 100.
