Bringing the house down like King Kong, Hiya Toys entered the kaiju figure scene with a mighty roar. I've managed to avoid getting sucked into their Goji lines in all that time. That changed. This is their GvK Kong 2.0. While I've long been satisfied with the Mezco, I really wanted to check out what Hiya can do. King Kong is my favorite giant movie monster, so where better to start than with him?

I, really like this figure. A lot. You can tell from the pics that it looks nice and poses nice, but what they can't convey is just how it feels. This Kong feels weighty and sturdy. Great handfeel that's aided by how smoothly it poses out the box. Excellent amount of accessories too. For the price, what's on offer here is VERY good. Love all the heads. They're very expressive and the eyes in particular have this glassy, lifelike look.

Any issues? The hands are kind of a pain the swap. Especially the left grip. I really struggled to get that two-handed axe wielding pose since it felt like that hand never 'popped' on properly. That's really about it, though.

Aside from Kong, I'm actually not really interested in Hiya's other Monsterverse offerings. No, what I'm actually looking forward to are their Toho figures. They're giving us so many of the major kaiju from the Heisei and Millennium eras. All for prices that I can justify to myself. If Kong is anything to go by, I'm excited to grab more. I've already got Godzilla 2000 on preorder and I GOTTA get a Kiryu. Maybe I'll grab a Heisei Mechagoji too. Hmmm. I hope we see some Showa releases too. I would love a Showa Mechagodzilla. Can you tell Mechagodzilla is another favorite of mine? Absolute pipedream is more King Kong. Unfortunately, the character is such a nightmare to license I don't know if that's feasible. But man would I like to see a 33 Kong, Showa Kong, and maybe even Peter Jackson Kong.
