Can you explain Sermons 12 and 14?
You wish to discuss the Lessons? Oh, that's wonderful! So, let me see, sermons 12 and...oh. Oh. Do you really want to discuss these ones? I mean, there are lots of sermons! And they're all pretty wonderful! And...well, if you insist.
So...ah, well you see, these two are a wonderful treatise on why you should not marry too young and too fast! So many young mer are jealous of the romance of their peers and go out looking for it for their own, but many fall for a wicked person and only realize too late and that's so sad. Vivec, he finds Molag Bal and because he's still quite young and naive, he thinks that this daedra is what he needs in his life, but no, he's terrible and cuts off his feet. Not that Vivec has ever been naive! Oh no, no, I'm sure he was just having a bad day. Gods can have bad days, can't they? But then he realizes, "Oh no, I am neglecting my duties in favor of my bedmate," so he cuts off of his head so he can do that. He can do that. Take this as a lesson to all that though one can be in love, one should not let it blind you towards your tasks.
So they...consummate...their marriage for quite a bit of time, more than is proper, strictly speaking. Not that Vivec isn't proper! It's just that as good as a honeymoon probably is, one still has things to attend to besides each other. And they have children! Lots and lots of little children. Too many children. Because you have to plan these things out, you know, you can't just go around having hundreds of children, no one can take good care of that many children. But no, they're all monsters and Vivec must hunt them down later and kill them to make amends for his mistake...with his spear...please do not kill your children. Especially with your spear.
So then, Molag Bal and Vivec bite new words and this is terrible because...because...oh look, these sermons are all about sex, alright? It's just straight-on fornication here. And you know what? Yes, it's natural, it happens! People have to deal with the aftermath later but they still do it, even gods. We do silly things in our youths and then have to spend the rest of our lives cleaning up after that and in doing so we may gain wisdom. And when you are a god or a great hero, those mistakes and wisdom gained are bigger than other people's.
So this is what these two sermons mean, at least to me. I tell you, people only ask me about these ones because they think it's funny to laugh at the fat old eunuch explaining spear biting. There are other sermons, you know. Actually, I quite like 16! Rather nice bit, that one.
