Moldy (politely) trying to convince the rest of the Light that there is no way Astral just willy nilly betrayed them, only for it to get to the point where he ends up exploding on them, pissed as hell that they're all just giving up on her when he knows damn well that there's something else going on. Moldy going off on his own to save Astral, starting by investigating why she might have even considered joining the Eye. At first it's just talking to people like Ember, Astral's friends who might know whats going on in her head, but things go downhill quickly once he expands who he's questioning. He starts asking pretty much anyone who might know anything about Astral, which turns out to be a really good idea, because it does give some insight to Astral's situation, but also a really bad idea, because Moldy's blood pressure is going through the god damn roof. He gets to first-hand witness just how brazen people are when discussing her. Like an after-thought, or just an annoyance. He never really noticed it before, but now that he's paying attention, he's starting to realize that Astral may not have ever been as 'alright' as she seemed. Maybe the Light gets a little desperate since they were now down 2 members, and they decide to try and talk to Moldy again, and actually hear him out about Astral (mostly just to try and get the Light back together). And they do! Moldy's a bit quieter now too, paying attention to how Astral is treated, how people talk about her, while trying to power through the rage boiling in himself. The Light officially comes back together (or at least, most of them) on the condition that they must get Astral back. In the time Moldy was gone though, Astral had been out (avoiding the Light) and successfully completing missions for GM. She can't face them yet. Can't confront what she's done, who she's chosen in the end. (But can she really be blamed? They had all hurt her. Not on accident, not by collateral damage, but personal hurt, fracturing their friendships with fire and hurtful words. She was never first choice. She went to others, They never sought her out of their own violation. She was the replacement, the temporary. She just wanted someone to-) + Bonus? GM getting a little weird about their little Starlight (hehe) as time goes on, cause they sort of consider her a bit of a personal project more than anything else. So while they were already annoyed with Moldy, that annoyance is shifting into darker feelings as Moldy keeps trying to steal their prized work. -Anon S. (... G- ... GM- ... GM x Astral? Maybe? moldy so thinks yang and derp are still willing to try and find astral, even after the 'reveal' (thats a little bit faux) and i think they would tolerate him still trying for a while. what really sets moldy off, though, is when one of them (NOT pointing fingers but i believe derp would day this tbh) says smth like "moldy you have to let her go, its just a waste of resources to get them back." like "??? a waste of resources ??? thats what you think about astral ?? our FRIEND ???" and probably a ton of other stuff gets said but im sure what specifically. but yeah it ends with moldy setting off to free astral himself and leaving the light.
its actually really funny (/sad) because astral has like. two friends outside of moldy himself and yang. and thats ember and foxer (and evpark lowkey but i dont even think he's alive nor would i count him as astral's "friend" since they only teamed together to fught aupnil) both of whom have very different perspectives on them, being at least mildly positive.
ember believes astral is strong, if not a bit aggressive and brash to say the least. they helped her get rid of 01chungz at least! that isnt to say that astral isnt a good person, just definitely has a lot of stress. theyre still kind regardless, not being a maniac killer like people would think her as.
meanwhile, astral had helped foxer with the incendiary pirates' attack on trading hub and helped repair the arena. but she also killed cryo (slash let him die idk the specific wording from canon), and left the trading hub without a second thought. while he respects them, its clear his thoughts arent all that positive even if he understands the situation she was in.
so moldy's first two accounts of other players' thoughts on astral arent too bad, fairly critical! but no info on where they could be-- astral hasnt been near the emberace OR trading hub since before the light's formation, which wouldve been months ago by now. so thats when he gets desperate enough to ask around, other people that might know something, ANYTHING, about astral or where she could be.
of course, nobody does. she was completely anonymous for a couple months when they "joined" the eye. but what other players have to say about her really isnt anything positive. most can barely recount their interactions with her, others straight up complain about how pushy or aggressive they were when trying to find the deadzone/factory. the latter, moldy maces nine times out of ten.
when the light finds him to propose working together again, moldy immediately declines at first. he's seen and heard more than enough disrespect towards his best friend in the past week of clue finding. but when they agree to try hunting for astral again, maaayyybeee apologizing for disrespecting her and calling them a "waste of resources" as well. "dont apologize to me, apologize to astral when we get them back" moldy states when he agrees to join the light again.
with astral though... she's not doing so well, very obviously...
theyre a total freakout, probably one minor mistake from breaking down. she failed the light, failed to be a good fighter, a strong person. she nearly failed the eye, failed to fight back.
"they deserve it," astral keeps telling herself. after all, it was true. they were always some backup, just the extra power behind the operation. derp would rather choose her guards over them, yang would rather his bunkermates, and moldy? ever mysterious moldy.. he'd push her aways before talking about himself. while valid and totally minor, they still couldnt help but feel more affected by moldy than she should. they opened up to him several times, about some stuff she wouldnt dare try telling anybody else! and he never reciprocated.. it was a clear sign of mistrusr, right?
astral was never respected in the light, was never Trusted in the light. never trusted to be a hero. all she knows is to destroy, to hurt.
so why cant they bring themself to hurt those who hurt her, so badly?

moldy is causing more than enough problems for the gamemaster.. trying to destroy its faction is one thing, disrespecting their Law is another. but to mess with its Prized fighter? one that it had spent so fucking long conditioning to be emotionless, to forget her previous life-- TO FORGET HIM. why does he still believe in this soon-to-be useless hunk of power....

Eye!Moldy AU but he's way too attached to Astral and refuses to do anything unless she's safe and always in a place he can find her so the Eye is basically forced to kidnap her.
Either Moldy is being given the mind control treatment, and his care for Astral somehow pushed through the mind control, so he goes on strike until she's stuck with them.
Or perhaps it's an AU where Moldy was always an Eye member? He was technically a spy but got too close to Astral and started to feel protective of her.
Or it's an AU where he willing joins BECAUSE of Astral. Specifically because she's constantly in danger and he feels desperate enough to join the Eye if it means he can keep her safe.

the idea of moldy being so protective of astral that it breaks through the mind control.... ouhh
like, gm thinks it has moldy because of the mind control being so strong, but when they tell him to do something, try to make him act. he just. doesnt. and it takes a while for gm to understand (because im imagining this mind control being like taccorp's where the person under it has zero autonomy for themself-- so moldy couldnt outright Tell gm this) that he will only act or do things should he have astral, or know where they are. its something instinctual, probably somethijg like imprinting idk
so ! gm issues for astral to be kidnapped and brought back to the eye's base (probably the factory depending on if this is pre or post mtc). how ??? do they do this ?? who knows ! moldy's certainly not questioning it, he's like 60% instincts rn (40% mind control) (dont ask okay ☝️ will elaborate cuz this is funny in my head) and he's just happy he has his astral !!
gm tries to give astral the same kind of treatment as moldy, but he is Not having that. not having anybody near his princess, no sir !!! but how do they contain astral, keep her from escaping ?? because as long as they have astral, they have moldy. but ☝️ what the eye doesnt know. is that, as long as they have moldy, THEY ESSENTIALLY HAVE ASTRAL AS WELL.

i imagine moldy would go on missions as normal, yk. not very speaking, very aggressive. does the task. but he does the bare minimum. LITERALLY does as he's asked. no less, but also no more. more time to spend with astral afterwards! and, as far as he's (his consciousness, moreso) concerned, thats all he cares about.

instead of gm "killing" moldy and sending him to the backrooms, after he kills false-- they instead offer him a spot as a diamond player among the eye, promising him power beyond imagine. but, having just got out of killing shattered smp's greatest griefer and on a MASSIVE power trip: moldy Doesnt Care for power right now. but what else can gm use against him, then? well, fortunately for it, he cares WAY too much about his friends. and the first one gm can think of (and the closest one to moldy that they have record of) is astral!
of course, theyre like. moldy's one greatest weakness. so of course he agrees, as long as she's safe. and so thats his contract with gm signed and stored away in moldy's echest most likely.
this works, for a while. its a little finicky with canon, since astral wouldve started heading towards the factory at this point, but the eye doesnt suspect that she'll even get to the factory.

most of them. except for moldy. who damn near betrays the eye because of this. if they dont uphold their end of the deal, why should he??
haha I can't believe Astral left the Light, and now she's mainly on her own... wow it would be really awful if she just... vanished... and everyone else is so busy with running their groups and fighting the Eye that no one really notices... wouldn't it be just the worst if the Eye took her and used chekhov's mind control to turn her into an ally. god, and wouldn't it absolutely suck if she ended up using an invisibility exploit so no one, not even the lower ranks of the Eye were to know her identity, even if she totem popped... so the Light would have no clue they're fighting their friend... ha wow and they wouldn't even think of it since they don't even realize Astral is missing... and what a shame it would be if Moldy nearly kills her, only stopping because she pulled out an oddly familiar looking sword, and wow, now Moldy has no clue if this is Astral, or if something happened to her... oh my, how awful, truly devastating. -Anon S. rationalizing/explaining the invis exploit: could be a modified and improved version of the one hour invis, and could possibly be something like darkest's chestplate granting him immortality-- but can be taken off to remove it ?? like so long as astral keeps her chestplate on (yes her chestplate. i dont think it glowing over all their other pieces was a coincidence it GOTTA be plot relevant) , then theyre invisible like totally unable to be known by others.
lowkey fucked up thing: astral's either not allowed to kill or silly exploit that censors her name in kill messages (li. like. Wwisp smp ..!! 😼😼 okay im sorry) and is forced to use a different sword and axe than her own so then they have NO signifiers of who they are
how does moldy find out ??? OKAY okay... setting the scene.... the light (like expanded rn) finds the new location for the core (likely in the end and nufuli told moldy or derp about it yada yada i just wanted to mention nufuli okay ^_^) and they get an item that can steal from others' inventory like what lynne had. so when they get into a fight with this Surprisingly Really Strong Diamond Player !!! they steal theyre sword so they cant fight, and astral is forced into using her other sword (her NAMED SWORD) if she wants to win or even fight this battle. THAT is when moldy (and yang) (#moralityduo) find out slash start suspecting theyre identity.
me personally im thinking yang would notice it first cuz he's more groundbound than moldy so she'd be getting into more altercations with astral so more time to notice the sword yah ? yeah... and they tell moldy later after the fight or smth yah !!
at first its a little "they *cant* have astral, they mustve just stolen her sword or something lol" before they try finding astral or asking around and seeing whats happened to them and. they just cant. nobody has seen astral or even heard of her since spawn civ and yamine empire got destroyed.
its. honestly a little sad nobody noticed sooner. it kinda lowkey cements astral being subtly overshadowed by the rest of the light. like. no one noticed she was gone cause of the expectation of her Being There. you dont notice it until its gone type stuff? yk?
