For the Christmas drabbles: Hendriggs + Thank You, please?
In true me fashion, I waited until the last minute to answer this. Merry Christmas, ori'vod!!!
“I appreciate the sentiment, Riggs, but you really didn’t have to fight someone for Ben’s Christmas present,” Molly said as she unlocked the door to the house, letting them both inside.
“I mean, it wasn’t much of a fight,” Martin pointed out, taking one of the shopping bags from Molly as she closed the door behind them. “More of a brief wrestling match that I won. Easily.”
Molly laughed, shaking her head with amusement. “Okay, cowboy. I’m sure Ben will appreciate it, and you know I do.”
As she went to put away the presents they’d just finished picking up, Martin let his gaze linger on her for a minute. Nine months ago, he wouldn’t have thought he’d be alive to enjoy another Christmas after his brother tried to kill him. But here he was, home with the woman he loved and her son that he already thought of as his own kid. He was luckier than he’d ever thought he would be.
Stepping forward, he looped an arm around Molly’s waist and pulled her into an embrace. She let out a start of surprise, but turned into it willingly. “Hmm, not that I’m complaining,” she murmured against his shoulder, “but what did I do to earn this?”
Martin tried to explain, but found his throat tightening with an irritating amount of emotion. No words could really describe what he was feeling anyway, so he just pressed a kiss against her forehead and said quietly, “Thank you.”
She didn’t ask for what— Molly always seemed to understand. Instead, she leaned back a little, just enough to kiss him on the lips.
