Hellbender (2021)

This is a little indie movie that absolutely stole my heart. The mother-daughter duo is acted by real-life mother and daughter Toby Poser and Zelda Adams. The visuals are just breathtaking and the witchy vibes are 10000/10. The ritualistic stuff is super unique and having a parent-child relationship at the heart of the movie is so compelling.

The Ritual (2017)

This one falls more into myth/folklore. It's premise is relatively simple, but the tension is so so good. Not just the scares, but the emotional tension between the characters and the trauma that happened making the fears even worse. Plus the creature reveal is fucking awesome. If you love horrors in the forest this is for you.

Moloch (2022)

This movie freaked me tf out. The mythology is very original, and the mystery is slowly unraveled with the perfect amount of mounting horror. I was slightly familiar with some aspects because I read an illustrated Old Testament as a kid but I was still blindsided with how visceral and terrifying the reveal was.

I'm watching a Dutch horror movie called Moloch. Opening scene is a little girl in 1991. Cut to an adult "30 jaar later." My first thought was,"Oh how interesting! It takes place in the future!"

Fucking nope. That was LAST YEAR.
