mikoto reigns in a giggle while the space between her fingers fills up with frizzy red hair ,    still dripping wet with water from their earlier mishap      :          “  𝙞 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙤 𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙩 .     𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙨𝙤 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙗𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙣 .  ”          a hellion of the softest flames (embers that warm more than they burn) ,    another strand untangled .        a small smile graces her face ,    relaxed and open because she was very well-aware that kushina was still facing the other way (probably pouting and with her arms crossed) .        still ,    her elbows are resting on the top of mikoto’s thighs and that avowal made her fingers shake just a little      ----------      because kushina is barely even aware of her own true strength (so surely she wouldn’t notice mikoto’s carefully hidden affections either, right?) .

' mikoto --- are you listening to me... ' a gentle nudge is given as her friend's attention is elsewhere. it had been waining for the majority of the day, she comment thoughtfully. which she didn't mind all that much --- kushina was just curious as to exactly what went on in the uchiha's head.

the embroidery hoop rests easy in her hands      ———      crossed stitches woven over soft fabric with hypnotising ease    :    the clan elder began to teach her on the day her wedding date was officially announced (and it still feels like she’s dragging the thread through her own skin ,   touching fat and a wounded heart) .         kushina had known better than to bounce to her full of excitement ,   because it was still arranged after all .        yet when mikoto’s (trembling) fingertips had insisted on hooking into the corners of her mouth to pull it into a smile of her own ,    it didn’t hurt as much anymore (because every moon needs its sun ,   even if they can never truly be with one another) .

even now ,    it was raining and yet her mood wasn’t dimmed in the least .        the warm weight of kushina’s body leaning into her own grounds her in this moment ,    even if her hand feels disconnected from what she is feeling     :     the needle pushing the red thread back through the white layer (disappearing from sight constantly ,   but never torn) .        she chose to stitch an apple tree ,    as to the clan elder ,    it might be an unconscious symbol for fertility (while all she could see was red ,   red ,   red) .        sometimes she envies kushina for being able to leave so truly free as herself ,    but even that is a beauty most people cannot truly appreciate ,    something that was beyond her (and would continue to enrage her forever) .          ❛  i don’t even have to listen properly to know you were talking about that blond jōnin again ,   kushina .      so what exactly did he do this time?  ❜          a giggle escapes her ,    despite her eyes never leaving her piece     ———     even though she knew his name ,    but she could pretend not to for a little while longer (and perhaps that was the best wedding gift) .
