hey are you going edit the "How to Apply to monster office" thing in ya blog? since everyone can join now?

I’ll get to it eventually. Unfortunately I dont have a lot of time right now between life things. One day I’ll get this place tidied up again.

Right now Im trying to catch up on interactions and finish plot lines I feel are owed including: Boogie Vs. Fairy/Tea with Mothimer/ Office Romance Conundrums

Also heads up, real life is really tough too. Ive been struggling with a very taxing job thats made more hard because we are horrendously understaffed. Help is on the way but it’ll take a few months. Im possibly moving out by November and figuring that out. Trying to prepare at least a little for CTNX. And other personal things that are gonna be keeping me just a bit tied up till December (which is also a busy month for me due to family obligations and adjusting to new living and stuff)I know Ive been kinda saying this for the past few months. I thought things would let up a but a lot of sudden changes are pushing things forward at a faster pace than was expected and Im scrambling to keep up.

So, some sad news folks. After a lot of deliberation, going back and forth, and discussing with friends I have come to a final decision.

I am going to be discontinuing this blog as a community based organization.

Please allow me to explain the why and what this will mean for everyone.

Why?

There are a few major reasons.

The first is that I created this idea during a time where I had a lot of free time to devote to it. However, I had to get a new job, a new job that is extremely demanding both in time and energy. Thus its hard to keep this blog active. I’ve barely kept my deadlines, the blog is almost always on hiatus, and Im behind on everything happening in the community. I can not keep up. And it sucks for everyone.

You have all been wonderful and very patient with me but I just feel more and more guilty about this and it makes this not fun.

Members have offered to help. While I have made mods the thing is they can only do so much. They help manage things but I feel its really up to me to make the content that keeps this blog going. Stuff like creating prompts, providing references of the building, and writing FAQ’s and Lists is just hard to do now. Which brings me to the next point.

Part of the reason why I feel unmotivated and unable to make content is because I feel Im constantly putting out fires. I either have to fix the way the blog is run or I have to make posts dealing with members in the community stirring up a ruckus.

Not to mention it feels like some parts of the community are getting a lil bad... I get the feeling that me posting works to this blog kinda started to breed some bad feels. Folks started feeling bad because they could not keep up or they would make something really nice and only get a doodle in return. Most of all I get the ‘no one is interacting with  me’ way too often and I dont want to even go into that right now.

It feels like often I have someone telling me ‘this group made me uncomfortable’ or ‘this person really said something offensive’. And I have to go in and investigate and mediate or do whatever. Thats just how it goes with communities, especially if you want to keep them safe and fun for everyone but it is a lot of work.

Which leaves me with a community that was built upon content which now has no content which leads to issues that I fix and overall its just a spiral of not fun for me.

Which brings me to the last point.

I love seeing people interact, I love that people have made friends here, but Im not having fun with this project. This was supposed to be a project where Id share ideas and use that to try and motivate me to make art as if this were a project. However, Im not doing any of that. I want to get back to that. In order to do so I think I need to cut out the management of a community because that is a fulltime job itself.

What does this mean for all of you?

Well, rest assured Monster Office is not cancelled. Im not shutting down the blog, Im just not going to manage the community anymore. However, the community will continue to exist.

Im happy you all found friends, or inspiration, and got to roleplay and build characters and stories. I really dont want to end that so I wont. Your characters can continue to exist in the Monster Office realm, you can continue to work in the building and interact with other employees. Its just those interactions will not be posted to this blog anymore.

There will be no more prompts from me. If you wanna draw responses to what I post here feel free too but I wont be making specific prompts anymore.

The good news I think is that you do not need to be a member anymore to join in. There are no more windows and no more applications. If you wanna partake then make an OC and hop on in. I will leave the departments up so ya’ll can get an understanding of the office and find a job for yourselves. Just...please dont make one up and dont put yourselves into high positions. Y’know just be respectful and if you have doubts, ask me.

I will leave up all the past interactions I just wont be posting new ones.

If you left me an ask or an open prompt I will still try to reply to it.

What will become of this blog?

Well, I wanna make it what it was always supposed to be. This will be an ask blog for Oranhamme, Fairy, and other dreamons! And I want to also make it a worldbuilding blog. I really wanna focus on making this really awesome environment with awesome characters and the likes. I wanna have fun with this again without the obligation and pressure of disappointing people or keeping them hanging.

So feel free to send more asks and maybe have some cameos of Fairy and Oranhamme in your stuff.

Again Monster Office is not dead and the community is not gone. You all were the ones keeping this going in the first place. We’re all still here its just not going to be super duper organized like before and I just wont try to micromanage everyone and what they’re doing.

If you have any questions please ask me I know this is sudden and may leave a lot of people confused and baffled, I’ll try to answer to the best of my ability.

Hopefully when things become more manageable and you can work on the blog again, will you announce it so people can begin making art/interactions?

I still want folks to make interactions? I’d still plan on reblogging them.

I was even wondering about holding applications open again for a short window because I know folks have been wanting to get in. I guess the big difference is that I just would not have anything planned. Mainly there would be no prompts and no main storyline that folks could participate in.

Im still working it out but even so I will announce once the blog is back to full steam ahead.

I’ve gotten wind that there are possibly some chatrooms going on with MO members for MO. While I have no intention of telling you all what to do. I will say that any chatroom on skype/discord/telegram etc. is NOT an official MO item. Same for any other blog meant to be like an MO supplement or something. Im not telling you not to do it. I just dont want what happens there to be taken as like MO law or something. I also want to say this because I cant and wont be monitoring what happens in those places. I dont even know whats goin on there so just be advised.

Edit: If you’re wondering why I dont make an official MO chatroom its because I do not have the time nor resources to monitor something like that. And before anyone offers to do it I must respectfully say that I do not take on mods just because someone offers. Im sorry if it seems paranoid but Im still new to this thing and Im trying to be careful and do things right.

YES! I will be making a formal announcement beforehand to give folks time to prepare. It will include a lot of new information of what you can do in Monster Office too.

How to Apply to Monster Office

APPLY ANY TIME JUST HOP INTO THE #monsterofficemayhem tag whenever you want.

The 3 Steps to Applying!

First Step: Check if applications are Open:

There are a lot of folks looking to joining Monster Office but there is limited time and resources to manage it. In order to try and guarantee a good experience we limit how many people can join at a time so that we can properly manage things in a timely and effective manner. We do this by opening ‘windows’ of time where people can send in their applications. You can check if applications are open on this page! At the top of the page will be a  header saying if applications are open or closed as well as detailing the dates of the current/next window.

The time between windows is random and depends on the schedule of the mods and myself.

If applications are closed the submission box will be closed. If applications are open then follow this next step!!

Second Step: Fill out the pre-made Monster Office Template!

The Template is as follows:

Picture of your Character: (Or a written description.) Character Name: Character Species: (Or a short description of what they are) Position: (Their role in the Monster Office) Summary: (Brief history or description of your character. No longer than a paragraph please) Blog: (If you want folks to ask and interact with your characters let us know which blog you want them to use) Interaction Status: (Please write ‘yes’, ‘no’, or ‘ask first’ to show if your characters are publicly open for interaction)

Here is an example of what an Application should look like.

A few things to note before you submit:

Humans and Monsters are both accepted. The rule of Monster Office though is that Humans will turn into Monsters over time. What a human turns into, how fast, and in what way is up to the discretion of the artist as long as it does not breach our ‘safe for all ages’ rule.

The character most be your own original character. It can be a pre-existing character made to fit into MO or an entirely new character. Please check the department you would like to join before applying for it. If a department is full we will not accept new additions until a position opens up. You can check what departments are open on our Departments and Members Page. If you decide to apply for an “Out of Office” Position please try to avoid duplicating a business. For example, if there is already an active bakery I would suggest seeing if your character can work with that bakery instead of making an entirely new bakery. That way we can create more interactions between out of office folks and direct more traffic to one location instead of splitting it up. Save your work before you apply. I cant guarantee tumblr will not eat the application.  Also if there is something wrong with the application and I need you to fix it, it will be much easier for you to have it on hand than having me send it back to you.

If you want to change your position in the office you can re-submit your application with the new position you want during the next application window. Try to stay active. I was not expecting this level of popularity with Monster Office.  Because of how many people want to apply I think its going to be important to try and stay active. We understand life can get in the way so we want to be lenient. If you have a reason you cant post just let us know. However if there is no activity from your character after two application windows, we will delete the application to make room for new members. You can bow out or reapply at any time. Don’t want to be part of the MO anymore? That’s okay just send us a message and we can discreetly remove your application. Want to join again at a later date? Sure, just send in the app again during an open window.

Final Step: Send in your Application to the Submission Box!

Double check you’ve read everything and have all the correct info down and send it in! Usually as long as the Application meets the requirements we will accept the application.

 Your application will be added to the queue and posted to the blog within a week. Congrats on Applying!
