it’s as far as he’ll allow the truth to be forced out of him. delia is a complicated matter for him and he has enough enemies that should they realize she had been a weakness for him at one point, it would complicate things even further than it already was. he could never allow himself to continue to indulge in the emotions she had made him feel while continuing to gain the power he wanted.

he had come to a crossroads and made his choice. that was the only truth that matters.

▬▬▬ ◓      It was his mother’s  arms  around  him  that  made  him  break  completely.  Sobs  wracked  his  chest  as  he  squeezed,  finally  letting  all  of  those  feelings  free.  Between his  loss  at  the  league  &&  then  the  entire  Kalos  crisis  --  Ash  felt  pretty  traumatized.  It  was  even  difficult  to  sleep;  he  kept  getting  flashes  of  the  crisis.  Every  time  he  shut  his  eyes,  he  was  back  at  Lumiose  tower,  restrained  with  his  pokemon.  He  couldn’t  bear  it.  He  knew  his  mom  just  wanted  to  help,  but  it  was  still  too  much  to  handle  right  now.  So  after  a  moment,  he  dropped  his  arms  &&  stepped  back,  wiping  the  tears  from  his  eyes.  His  expression  went  blank.  This  was  for  the  best.

▬▬▬ ◓      Ash was packing up  the  rest  of  his  things  --  he’d  only  been  home  a  few  days  this  time,  but  he  knew  it  was  what  he  needed.  It  was  always  nice  for  him  to  spend  some  time  with  his  mom  --  even  if  he  rolled  his  eyes  at  her  as  she  reminded  him  to  bring  everything.  

                                  ❝  I know, mom! I packed my own underwear too so you don’t have to remind me about that either!  ❞

            He stated, knowing that  was  the  next  thing  on  her  list.  Once  his  backpack  was  full,  he  zipped  it  up  &&  put  it  on,  Pikachu  immediately  jumping  onto  his  shoulder  &&  he  was  ready  to  go!

            Still, he wouldn’t leave  without  one  last  thing.  He  threw  his  arms  around  his  mom,  squeezing  tight  ( but  not  too  tight )  &&  letting  out  a  chuckle.  

                                  ❝  I love you mom! I’ll call you when I get to the next Pokemon center!  ❞

he held her close to his chest, taking advantage of the fact that delia couldn’t see his face. she’s complicated his life in a way he had never intended - a dalliance outside of his marriage and obligations that had grown to something he couldn’t afford to have. particularly not with how team rocket was falling officially to him from what had been his mother’s advisor’s purview. paired with the gym’s responsibilities...

“i would stay if i could, delia.” it’s more honest than most things he says. “but my responsibilities don’t disappear just because i want to have more free time. i can’t trust the others to run things in my absence, not to the standards i expect.” a kiss to the top of her head, not letting her go. “forgive me.”

giovanni chuckled, fingers entangled in delia’s. he supposed he could be a tad intense when it came to these things. so for the moment he would let her catch her breath - after all, they had all day. “take as much time as you need. i’m not going anywhere.” assuming there weren’t any calls from his admins. the league knew better than to call him.
