An angel withers and dies every time someone calls a game in the mon genre a 'pokemonlike' rather than a monster tamer or creature collector.

[id: Two digital drawings of a domestic cat monster with a boomerang shaped head with dripping flesh on its chin and chest. On its back is a pair of spots like a milk was dripped down its back. Its posed seated, tail curled loosely around the side, looking up and to the left. Behind them for a background is a simple colored block.
The monster on the left is black with white spots and eyes. Green background. The monster on the right is white with pink spots and eyes. Gold background. /end id]
Sopkit
[right] Slime type (typ); [left] Bone type (haunt);
A perpetually wet kitten that smalls strongly of milk, with how fresh or rancid the smell is depending on the haint’s mood. Sopkit is fond of milk and will steal it from homes and farms. If startled it will use its atrocious scent to scare off attackers, due to this some mediums like to use sopkit as a support haint in medium v medium battles.
Who is the best Mon Hero?
Satoshi / Ash (Pokemon)
Yagami Taichi / Tai (Digimon Adventure)
Sakura Genki (Monster Farm/Monster Rancher)
Zen / Chase (Bistro Recipe/Fighting Foodons)
Kodai Ryuto / Max Taylor (Dinosaur King)
Oya Monda (Mon Colle Knights)
Literally bugs me every time I see folks talk about the mon or creature collector/tamer genre as 'the pokemon formula' or as a 'pokemonlike' I absolutely do not respect them or their opinions on nonpokemon mon stuff.
Like it really shows their experience with the mon genre if they jump to calling a genre that's older than Pokemon a pokemonlike or using pokemon's formula.

Laios Touden would be torn between the Monster Hunter Stories games and Nexomon Extinction [specifically for the twist about the player character] for his favorite creature collector/mon series games.
He would have grown up loving Digimon, especially its grungy extreme kewl aesthetics but always hated how many mega level digimon are humanoids and also he wouldn't be fond of the robotic/cyborg digimon.
He'd be meh on Pokemon in general but would like the manga over the mainline games and anime. He would really enjoy the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games but be frustrated that he could never get his favorite pokemon on the personality quiz.
He'd love the concept and music of Cassette Beasts but wouldn't like the monster designs outside of the archangels. Barkley would he his favorite of the companions with Felix as a distant second.

It should not be a controvercial opinion that Digimon is better than Pokemon. (yes anime, movies, and games Digimon is better than Pokemon)
At least Digimon is trying new shit all the time instead of reskinning the same thing ad infinitum.

[id: Official art of a blue and yellow triceratops monster with striped horns from the Fossil Fighters franchise. /end id]
i wish more of the vivosaurs got official artwork cause like thus far i've only seen like 6 with proper art outside of their game sprites
its a nice art style

I said it b4 and I'll say it again, its weird that people keep comparing Cassette Beasts to Pokemon when it has so many Digimon vibes.
Like... isekai-ed into parallel dimension/space between worlds? Digimon. Collect new mons by scanning them/recording their information with a device? Digimon. Can turn into yer mons? Digimon. Mons born from human concepts, dreams, imagination? Digimon. Monsters that are believed to maybe be gods/demons/angels? Digimon. Fighting intelligent eldritch abominations that seem out of place in the medium? Digimon.
Cassette Beasts is like the various more interesting elements of the Digimon franchise collected into one entry, aimed at an older audience, and with more melanin and queer people. Which is wonderful.
