Proposal: we identify the individual nicknamed “mono anon” with the moniker “Monanon” or something because 1) less of the root in Monochrome so less chance of being tied in with monochrome shippers, and 2) it doesn’t make me think of mononucleosis, even though getting asks from them is like a disease that never quite goes away.
From the side of the pond I’ve seen them, we call them mono anon just because they presented themselves as a monochrome shipper, harassing bumbleby shippers as though to force them to see things the same way they do. Now from what I hear, they’re going around with the tactic of being a bumbleby shipper to harass people of other ships, likely because their 2+ years of harassing ACTUAL bumbleby shippers hasn’t worked.
Mono anon / Monanon’s key traits include:
Odd choice of censoring. They’ll use “Blak, su*, crwb*”, spell most ships by just initials (bs = blacksun, bb = bumblyby, etc.) or just put * and / in names unecessarily since such names are pretty broad in search terms.
Spelling. Their telltale is spelling “faunus” as “faunas”, but there are several other mispellings that pop up. Grammar and structure is another thing, if it takes a few reads to make sense of what they’re trying to say then that’s another telltale sign.
In the case Blake, they have favoured drawing comparisons to the Disney version of Beauty and the Beast to justify what they see as hints of Monochrome being canon, despite the fact that all ties to fairytales in RWBY have been to the original fairytales and not purely the Disney adaptations. They also liked to lean on the idea of Weiss being tied a lot more to the White Fang than she and the Schnees actually are in the show, and kept pushing the idea to people that Blake and Weiss were going to have a plotline VS the White Fang while Ruby and Yang would be the ones tackling the Maidens + Relics plotline.
Just nonstop asks. Blocking them doesn’t work because they seem to have found a workaround. Turning off anon solves it until you turn anon off and Monanon is just there minutes later to pounce again. No matter how you answer them or simply tell them to stop asking you, they won’t. They will harass you once given any attention and figuring out what they hope to gain from it is a lost cause.
From other asks to @sir-adamus , it seems that Monanon is denying that they’re the bumbleby shipper going around and harassing people with the same writing style and that someone is posing as them, so even if that IS the case, there is still someone going around trying to make bumbleby shippers look bad. And there’s no way to even confirm if this is true because Monanon has never come off of anon, and is notorious for jumping into ask boxes as soon as a targeted blog has their asks open to them again.
If anyone has any examples of their writing style or tactics, feel free go reblog and add them.
Nobody has the right to harass people over whether or not their ship will/will not be canon. Nobody has the right to harass people on why a ship isn’t “as canon” as theirs. And NOBODY has the right to continue this harassment when you make it perfectly f*cking clear that you don’t want to discuss their topic anymore. It’s highly doubtful this anon just feels the need to justify their ship because they have been pushing their asks on people over and over, and in response people have said they can ship what they want but please stop sending me these asks over and over.
EDIT:
It looks like Monanon is targeting blogs in the fandom with bigger follow-counts, and also might be trying to probe blogs or bait them to self-incriminate themselves, so best to ignore them, or if you REALLY want to answer them to be careful with how you answer so they don’t have a way to twist your words against you. It’ll likely involve reaching and a headache but still best to watch out.
Be wary of the Monanon. (or “whatever ship they claim to push over your ship”-anon.)
