It was a quiet day aboard The Swallowtail. Puttering along despite the minimal wind, Monarch was lounging on the deck while Lexie took care of some work down below. Not a cloud in the sky, the weather on the Grand Line was absolutely gorgeous - reminded her of home on the Calm Belt, in a way. Quiet, calm, beautiful. Monarch loved how still the sea was after a violent storm.

Of course nothing lasted on the Grand Line, and she spotted something off in the distance. Pushing herself upright, she stood and went to the railing to get a better look.

“Fuck - Lexie, stop the ship! We got a floater!” With with stomps of her feet on the decking to get the other woman’s attention, Monarch started stripping off her boots and heavy bolo jacket. The ship stopped with a sudden lurch, one that would have tossed most on to their ass, but Monarch stayed steady.

From the door leading down, a blonde mop of hair appeared. “Monny, what the hell-?”

“Don’t stop me, Lexie. We both know I’m stronger and the better swimmer. So sit your ass here and get the med gear ready.” And with that, she was leaping over the railing and in to the water, swimming off with a near inhuman speed.

Later, Monarch sat in their small med bay, watching the stranger sleep. It had taken a while to get the water out of their lungs, but they seemed to be sleeping at least somewhat peacefully now. It was a relief, really - the last thing she wanted was to deal with a dead body. Throwing it overboard would only attract predators, and taking it to an island would only bring questions.

The door opened, Lexie stepping in with a bowl of beef stew. “Here. Thought you might get hungry on ‘drowned idiot’ watch. There’s more in the kitchen if they wake up.”

“Thanks, Lex. Why don’t you get this thing started again - if we’re lucky, we might reach an island by mornin’.”

“Aye aye captain.” It’s said with a teasing tone - neither were really ‘captain’ of this little ship, but Monarch was certainly the face. 

Once she was gone, Monarch settled back in. But it wasn’t even ten minutes before the sounds of life started to filter in to the room - it looked like someone was awake! “Welcome back to the world of the livin’. You’re lucky to be alive right now - we found you in the middle of the fuckin’ ocean.”

“Call me Monarch. You need somethin’ done, somethin’ worth doin’, I’m your girl. I think you’ll find my rate reasonable.”

Meet: Monarch! Birth name, Monica. Merc by profession and largely morally neutral. I’d probably call her somewhere between true and lawful neutral, swinging closer to True Neutral - she has her own loose code, but generally she does what’s in her own best interest. A bit Devil-May-Care, she enjoys drinking, smoking, gambling, and generally having a good time - she believes life is too short to not take risks and not have fun.

She can be your best friend, or your worst enemy - all depends on who’s paying. While she doesn’t have many close bonds, she has one strong friendship: a young woman named Lexie who acts as her mechanic/doctor.

Monarch’s arms are not flesh and blood, but carbon fiber and steel. The forearms fold out to reveal long blades that she can use with deadly accuracy.  In some circles, she’s known as Death’s Butterfly.

Her home universe is the Cyberpunk 2077 world. However, she has a One Piece verse and an Obey Me verse I’m working on.

A little on her One Piece verse: coming from a technologically advanced island in the Calm Belt, she and Lexie travel on a small steam powered ship as mercenaries for hire. Their only rule: no slave transport or work for the Celestial Dragons. Lexie is an escaped slave herself. 

General Marines? Fine with working with. Pirates? Cool, cool. Civilians? Yeah sure. People who work directly with the Celestial Dragons? Not bloody likely.

A little on her Obey Me verse: A powerful human sorceress, a technomancer specifically, she works as a part-time teacher at RAD teaching programming classes. Ended up in the Devildom after making a deal with Alexandria - Lexie - a demon. The monarch butterfly is their Pact Symbol. She’s seen the brothers around the school from time to time.

Likely gets involved with the House through the MC - offers to teach them self defense against demons specifically. For me, this means Aya.

hi! lilo, may we please get a shoutout? goldencageshq is centered around the idea that monarchies have been brought back into play in the majority of countries & in a world where anyone could be someone you never know you you might run into. no one set country is the main stage, because the world is at their fingertips. all characters regardless of their status ( monarch, celebrity, civilian etc. ) will be more important than another because the main character of your story should be yours!
