give me som monark facts right now. any of em. need it in my LIFE
How bout one for each :)c!!!
Bruuno is afraid of the dentist and just pulls out his teeth with plyers. Its okay, he's a shark! Monark trait, his teeth just like. grow back ig. like a shark! So if his tooth is bugging him he just pulls it out. Typically w/o warning. One of his rails has a jar of his teeth because its funny.
Leonra is fairly faceblind, typically resolving to remembering things like horn shapes or what color shirt a person is wearing that day. It takes a while before someone truly can be remembered on face alone.
The only tattoos of Jawska's that he himself wanted and got willingly were the ones on his face. In fact, most of the blackout work on his arms were very poor cover-ups. That isn't a huge problem anymore, since he doesn't have arms. Also- Jawska is the shortest Monark! Jk topped out at about 7'2, making him the shortest currently alive Monark.
Archai was raised in the Fleet, and genuinely struggled when he was discharged. He had no real concept of what to do with his life. If he had only ever been created to serve in the Fleet, to serve under Deepbite, then what good was he now? It took a little while before he was able to push all of that down deep enough to live. He still hasn't confronted any of that, instead choosing to just exist in the moment. Too much stress makes him really sick anyways.
Juleus is incapable of hurting a child. Which is why he himself does not raise any of the spawn he pulls into the Fleet, he typically has someone else do it for him. Or, in Leonra's case, has a whole ship raise them. Juleus doesn't really step in until they're adults, in which case he has NO qualms hurting them. Children...? He can't. It's the reason Bruuno lived- Juleus would take the rejected wrigglers to someone else to cull. Except Boe decided against culling Bruuno.
✨ Shorks ✨
Yes please, I would love to hear about your descendants!
"Wonderful! Now, mind you, I only have two descendants of my own.
Juleus and Augest. Or as some may know them, Jules and Dr. Auggie. Auggie is the eldest. I've spoken with him several times. He looks more like Necrol than he does me but he wouldn't know- he was hatched blind! He's an astronomer, studies stars and they way he believes they communicate, studies radiowaves and all sorts of fancy science I'm not privy to. Not Fleet sponsored, mind you, he's one of two who has managed to avoid the Fleet. Smart bastard. Considers himself unremarkable because of a lack of a title, but if anything his dedication to keep going despite honor says more than any title can. He's got no descendants of his own.
Juleus, however...he doesn't look a thing like me. Not sure where he sprouted from. He left the hive early to be a pirate, followed by his moirail Brutus. From what I hear, Juleus was quite the first mate! That's where he earned his title, after all. Where Augest has avoided buckets, Juleus...well, there's a handful of crude jokes I'll refrain from making. Juleus was sort of...grandfathered into the Fleet. The story goes that Brutus got their ship captured, and Juleus negotiated trading his freedom for theirs. Using his status as a Monark freed his captain, but ultimately left himself trapped. As such, he developed an obsession with creating the perfect descendant. The perfect Monark to take over his spot. Most did not survive, but I'm more than happy to dig into those who have.
The eldest is Archai. Juleus got close with Chai, but she was hatched with a weak immune system. I believe the way Juleus went about creating his descendants was by mixing castes with himself. He tried fuchsia and fuchsia here. Good in theory, but ultimately produced a sickly grub. Though she tried, she simply couldn't stay healthy. I've had lots of conversations with Chai. She's very sweet, very patient. You'd never guess how far she got. She spends her time studying art history now! A wonderful change of pace for her. On Alternia, she has access to the medications she needs to stay healthy, and hasn't had a flare-up in some time.
Next would be Jawska. Or JK, as he prefers. Juleus tried rust and fuchsia with this one. Jawska is the second Monark who managed to avoid Fleet service, but he isn' without hardships of his own. From what he said, MegaDad kicked him out at a very young age to prevent Juleus from finding him. JK is a scrappy, intelligent, but surprisingly meek fellow. You can really see the lowblood in him when he gets cornered. Quick thinker, very hardy. Juleus would've had a successful heir, even with JK's bad back. If you ask me, it's a good thing he never found him. JK was a tattoo artist, shifted gears to being a seamster, and has started to shift back into art once again. He only came to my attention after a random attack seemingly killed him. My good friend Sinopa took care of it, and now Jawska is right as rain again. He's shown me pictures of his moirails, they make a cute trio.
That leads me to the twins. Now, you may be unaware, but Juleus is incapable of harming children. Maybe it's some old pirate code he follows, but he refuses to harm a child, no matter the cost. He didn't want twins, so he picked the strongest of the two, and told a business partner to get rid of the other. Rather than doing that, Boznik decided to keep Bruuno, and raise her himself. Whether he did a good job or not is besides the point. Bruuno is better known as Bruuno Sinopa, international rockstar and lead of his little band Whysteria. A different last name can't hide just how much of a Monark he is- spitting image of myself, if you ask me. Juleus had the most success with these two, combining fuchsia and purple. As such, Bruuno retained the powers I myself has, though they're more like chucklevoodoos. I'm not even sure she's aware of it!
Then Leonra, is his twin. Where Bruuno got chucklevoodoos, Leonra has the strength of a purple and a fuchsia put together. Leonra was the most successful of Juleus' attempts. But telling Leonra what to do is like telling telling a fire not to burn. Juleus lost any possible chance of Leonra taking his spot the second that kid realized how strong he was. Now, I'm no pushover. I may look like a rusty old man, and sometimes I sure feel like one, but you don't obtain the title Annihilation for nothing. I've been in plenty of fights, I've mediated plenty more. And not even I would want to be on the wrong side of Leonra's anger. I was discussing this with a peer the other day- Leonra has the training of the most elite soldiers the Fleet has ever produced, the logical thinking and problem solving capability to rival a damn computer, and lacks the empathy and bloodlust that is often a General's downfall. And yet, all he wishes to do is build his own things, do his own thing. Truly admirable.
The youngest two Monarks are Shiloh and Rumble. Shiloh is Bruuno's descendant, and Rumble is another of Juleus'. However, last I heard, Rumble is safe and away from the Fleet. And Shiloh is happily cared for by Bruuno. I've yet to meet Rumble! I believe she's the result of Juleus and his current matesprit. I have met Shiloh though. She's a very sweet girl."
How is/are Brunno and their shark family (like Leo for example) doing?... if its OK to ask
Bruuno has been good!!! I like to imagine him as enjoying OC retirement where i focus all my angst plots at characters who ARENT him for a change lmao. he's probably slowed down on the music a bit as Shiloh's gotten older!
Leo unfortunately happened to stumble upon his ex-kismesis/ex-moirail and agreed to help that idiot find his crush at a big party. except leo is useless at big parties and he has the romantic intelligence of a tomato. so.
juleus is uh. hes. hes um. uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. cough cough.
beloved stumbled his way into another relationship somehow. hes happy his daughter is safeish. he fucking crunched an old lady. (gore tw)
Archai is Archai and Jawska is Jawska. Rumble still has no idea she's biologically a Monark and there's another one, Dr. Kannon Monark, but he's yet to make an appearance
Does Jules hold some sort of entitlement to his descendants? How far does it exactly go and does he just think he's doing the right thing?
He does, in a way!
It's important to know Juleus NEVER wanted to be in the Fleet. His bloodline is "known" for their Martyr complex, Jules was no exception. He willingly entered the fleet to spare the captain of the pirate ship he was part of. He initially got titled on the ship! Deepbite came from the giant bite scar on his side. The title of Imperial was added when he slowly rose to power, despite his wrongdoings.
So, Juleus has, for a very long time now, "created" descendants with the explicit purpose of trying to find a suitable heir to replace him. Juleus is convinced nobody could kill him, and that is his only other option for leaving the fleet. he wants out!! So, for a hot minute now, he's essentially like? Bribed a cavern to push his desendants through, specifically like "mixing" them with other castes to create the "perfect" spawn. This had obvious complications! Archai has a weak immune system (fuchsia/fuchsia), Jawska is weaker and smaller (fuchsia/bronze), Bruuno has voodoos & Leonra is physically the strongest bitch alive (fuchsia/purple). He's been doing this for a while. Most don't live long for obvious reasons. Juleus...is not meant to be a parent. He is cold and unemotional. He tends to see them more as pawns! Juleus could never, in his life, physically harm a child. And most of his emotional/mental abuse isnt intentional.
he thinks this is the only way he can leave the Fleet. Trade a life for a life. It goes far enough that, the current reason he's going to die, is because he lied to his matesprit about it. He has another descendant (one with his matesprit, who hasnt a clue) that is being trained for this purpose.
Is Juleus was aware of Shiloh, Bruuno's descendant, being alive? He would probably try to pull her in. He wanted to get Bruuno as a replacement for Leonra but wasn't able to. If he knew Jawska was alive, he would snatch that man in a heartbeat. Bruuno has other means protecting him and Jawska has legally been missing since he was a child and ran away from home.
sorry im having so many Monark thoughts tonight
Archai struggling to find an identity outside of Juleus, who is Chai if not just an extension of Juleus? The only time he truly felt like a Person was when he willingly stayed in the fleet despite being advised to leave, solely to protect Leonra, a child at the time, from Juleus’ wrath. Chai can only ever see himself if he’s of use. His gender identity is rooted in being an extension of the man he was raised by.
Leonra, who remembers Chai and sees him as an absent person in his life, whose fleeting moments of kindness were out of pity. Leonra, who looks up to an idolizes Juleus’ matesprit, to the point of looking like the man. There’s still a piece of him, perhaps, that wants approval from Juleus, even if he’s left the fleet. He looks at the little girl he used to be in the fleet and feels she was done a great disservice, but he’d rather burn the planet down than ever demand Juleus to repent.
Jawska, who is the only Monark to have yet to meet Juleus. Jawska, who was kicked out of his home, who lived on the streets, who lived his life in fear, avoiding fleet and drones, to keep himself safe. Who, despite it, still finds difficulty in his identity. He doesn’t see Juleus when he looks in the mirror. But he doesn’t see Jawska either.
Bruuno’s the most sound one so far, but even he loathes seeing Juleus staring back at him in the mirror. To the point of adding more tattoos, more metal on his face. Later on in life he breaks his horn and replaces it to match Shiloh’s. Bruuno knows what happened to his twin, how cold and difficult life was in the fleet, and he strives to ensure Juleus never learns about Shiloh.
Beloved knows Juleus exists, but doesn’t see him as anything more than a man who shares a sign. Twitch and Jodiah are his descendants, not Juleus.
And Juleus, a man who only became corrupt because he wanted to be a martyr. Who ended his life of happiness to save his captain. Who spiraled, addicted to the power, addicted to the way reality seemed to bend to his will.
I know its super not characteristic of Beloved to be a fuchsia ancestor who’s just. so nice. but that really is just How The Bloodline Is*. They’re nice, they’re martyrs, its in their dna to be kind even if they bitch abt it. I guess it also is kinda weird in that society but, hear me out, : what if. hot take. what if....they were nice?
(*some wires got crossed w juleus)
