If my life were to have a motto, it would be “Life is too short to wear boring jewellery”. Anyone who has ever spent anytime with me would know that this is true – while my personality is cool, calm, and collected, my jewellery screams statement. Life can be monotonous and routine – there is no reason why your jewellery should be as well. Jewellery, for me, has always been a way to stand out in the crowd, compensating for ways that I don’t in other areas. Jewellery makes me noticed and gives me the confidence boost I need to get through my day. What does jewellery mean to you?
When I heard about a website called INVALUABLE, which allows you to bid on jewellery (both real and costume) for fractions of their regular prices. I was beyond intrigued. Everything from bracelets, necklaces, watches, and men’s wear grace their auction site, and it’s the perfect place for someone to pick up a new trinket or two!
Now, in the spirit of INVALUABLE’s auction jewellery site, I’ve been tagged to do a “My Favourite Jewellery Post”, so without further ado ….
What are your favourite pieces to wear?
My favourite piece is from ALDO ACCESSORIES. A large bib statement necklace, fixed on wire with beads, gems, and metallic’s, it’s become a staple in my wardrobe and a never failing attention piece. I love it so much, I currently own the necklace in 6 different colours.
What are your favourite items in your jewellery box?
My favourite item in my jewellery box actually never makes it to my jewellery box – a small silver ring adorned with punched circles that forever vacates my left middle finger. Given to me in my early teens, I’ve worn it ever since. It’s become part of my own body now, my finger feels foreign without it and I can never imagine a time where I’d take it off. A gift from my family, if I remember correctly.
What sort of jewellery do you wear on a day-to-day basis?
WORK: pieces that work with my wardrobe, but are generally statement pieces. A busy patterned dress might call for a larger bracelet in lieu of a necklace, or a deeper neckline might call for a large bib necklace to fill in the negative space. Regardless, one piece of my jewellery will always be larger in scale: bracelet, earrings, necklace.
WEEKENDS: minimalist in nature. Around the house calls for delicate pieces – perhaps stud earrings or a simple bracelet.
What pieces do you wear to a formal occasion?
My jewellery doesn’t usually change for a formal occasion – a statement necklace goes a long way! The best thing about them is that they are easily convertible for daytime to nighttime. The simplest rule for formal occasions is elegance over quantity.
Do you have any pieces that have been passed down through your family?
I was once given a beautiful floral ring from an aunt when I was a young girl. I’m not sure if she remembers giving it to me, but I still cherish it to this day. It’s delicate, it’s feminine, it’s chic, and it’s lovely.
How was your jewellery evolved with age?
My jewellery tastes used to be terrible! The teenage years are always an epic fashion fail and my jewellery was no different! I loved multiple necklaces layered, and I often wore the same ones over and over. It rotated between a black necklace I once purchased at the Japanese Epcot pavilion, and a charm necklace of either a heart or a cross. It was messy and unorganized but hey – I was a teen! Also – bead necklaces. VERY in when I was in high school.
My love affair with statement pieces began slowly, with first buying smaller pieces to feel out what I liked and didn’t like before graduated to a more defined style. Today, my jewellery is always a statement and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Summer 2015 Jewellery Wish List
There are a lot of beautiful trends coming out this year that I’d love to try out! And yes, there will be a statement necklace or two!
PINKLOVEBIRD IRIDESCENT PEARL DOUBLE STUDS ($22.00 CAN): I’m falling in love with the double stud trends – in this case, you could wear the larger pearl to the back of your ear, creating an interesting vocal point up near your face.
NEIMAN MARCUS PANACEA TURQUOISE STATEMENT NECKLACE ($81.00 US): Perfect for on the beach or at the office.
OLIVE AND PIPER DRAGONFLY COLLAR NECKLACE ($78.00 US): I’m loving dual necklaces – the layering of statement necklaces can be such a beautiful addition to any wardrobe.
ALDO ACCESSORIES UNIRALIA BRACELETS ($18.00 CAN): Love that these are both affordable and a beautiful stacking piece.
