Wounds need treatment. That’s what Lucky has learned and that is why he’s crouched over what he thinks is another soldier, eyeing the white gnarl of a scar on his arm, pale and jagged. It might have closed up a long time ago but Lucky doesn’t necessarily understand medicinal treat- ment to a T quite yet.
Which goes without saying, because he’s licking the wound like a cat might to a snarled scab it gets from the garden. Because once--and only once--he heard someone on TV say saliva naturally remedies blood, enhancing the clot.
