I've been thinking about writing a certain BNHA fanfic (AfO/OfA known, Midoriya Hisashi = AfO, that kind of thing) for awhile but I'm super hesitant, since I've never written fanfic before and I'm not even sure anybody would be interested in the idea now that its gained a lot of popularity. Any advice for a first time fanfic writer?
First off, I would LOVE to read that.
Second, the best and only advice to can give for writing is to do two things: read and write. Know what you want to write and do that by reading, find stories and styles and cherry pick the parts that suit you. I’m not saying plagiarize or anything but take note of how good writing feels and flows. Reading good fiction helps you understand your own writing.
Second, write. Just write. All the time, whenever you can. Sketch out scenes, test ideas but put pen to paper. Get the hang of putting one word after another and forming a sentence, a bit of dialogue, a concept you want to convey. You have this nebulous cloud of brilliant ideas and thoughts in your head, its translating it in physical words the rest of us can read that’s hard. Start one letter at a time, not every word is gonna be great and it’ll probably be a awkward trying to properly sort out your ideas but every author you love started where you are: staring at a blank page with a story to tell and they only progressed by forging on anyway.
So just start writing, don’t think, don’t get too complicated on plots and details. Just get your style down and make it grow a little bit at a time and, I’m telling you,, seeing something in your head be brought into the world at your own hand? That’s the greatest feeling ever. Good luck and welcome to the club fellow writer
