My personal vote below the cut...

I cannot lie, Micky and Davy both really stick with me in Head but I always come back to Davy's plot the most. I just think it has such interesting stuff in it, and really interesting sequences.

The Violin sequence. The Boxing sequence. Daddy's Song. Him leading the fight toward freedom in the end. While Micky is the first to recognize the need for escape, and is the first to take the final leap off the bridge, Davy is the first to fight for his sense of autonomy. But this endless fight blinds him towards Peter's words in the end, and is perhaps part of the reason none of them manage to seek true clarity. Davy is always willing to put up a fight to be free, which is admirable from an audience standpoint but within the narrative never really earns him anything at all- aside from more pain and a general waste of his time and energy.

It's also interesting to see how his emotional responses in particular are played with and controlled by forces beyond himself. Both his emotional tenderness (a la the Violin sequence) and his joviality in the face of torment (a la Daddy's Song) are products of the film- not himself- and his more natural state seems to be that of either cockiness, confusion, unease, fear, frustration, or anger.
