Going Merry Holidays 2024 (day 24): - Luffy vs Sanji - The scientist
One last amv to be revealed and another project inspired by Whole Cake Island arc. Another inspiration was my fellow mate @chefalier who was also editing a Sanji-related video back then (here is the final version).
The original post didn't have much thoughts but let's say Luffy vs Sanji was quite surprising and definitely awakened all kinds of emotions among the fans and in the canon story but the more the arc went forward, the more it started to make sense for example Sanji's desicsion to go against his own captain.
After all, Sanji truly believed that sacrificing himself by accepting the Tea Party invitation would save his mates but somehow he forgot that he has the most stubborn but caring person as his captain so obviously Luffy wouldn't give up despite his cook acting weird.
Another element that caused discussion was Nami's reaction. People were wondering why would she do that. Platonic or not, she felt really hurt and was in disbelief, especially when Sanji gave that ice cold glare on her (which he has never done before).
One interesting detail in chapter 844 is that Luffy was actually the one who realized that Sanji is just acting. Nami didn't know that he didn't do it on purpose but just to protect them and she was in complete shock so all she could do was to give him an emotional slap and they parted with tears.
This was one of the turning points of events. Luffy realized this situation is actually very bad (before that his instincts said Sanji will be fine and that's why he didn't stress that much) and the more Sanji tried to push them away, the more Luffy became sure that he wants his cook home, the real one, not the fake Germa Prince and since he knows Sanji's past.
One of Luffy's way to show support (and rebel) was that food strike and he did amazingly well when we think about the fact that he enjoys eating lots of food. That's what I call dedication!
After Sanji left Nami felt anger and kind of retreated (whereas she had been "in the lead" until their reunion) but the more chapters we go forward, the more she starts to understand Sanji's situation and motives and in the end, they manage to reconciliate.
So, the amv itself is from Sanji's perspective, how he feels after finding out that the Wedding is nothing but a scheme and he just has been a pawn. His heart was broken because they planned to kill him and Sanji realized that his acts before are now putting his mates more in danger. I guess we can say his life went like a film roll when he had spiraling thoughts and in the video, the reverse effect was used to describe the thoughts.
The theme isn't the happiest one when it comes down to Holiday season but I think this is one of my personal favorite projects and that's why I wanted it to be the last one in countdown~!
