pan-princess-levy’s (that’s me!) 2019 summary of art
wow! what an year this was! time for retrospection...
holy hell, i drew... a lot of stuff. i dont think there are quite the 500 files (both process and finished) for 2019 but i think i drew maybe. 250? 300 separate pieces? and im so proud of myself!
lets just ignore the fact only half of my summary pieces are published ones and the other half are just favorites from my un-published work hahahAHAHHA
(as you can probably guess, the months where the drawings are the most sketchy - february, april and november - didnt really have that much artwork im proud of. i have an excuse for novermber, because i was writing for nanowrimo, but i have no memory of the other two. rip me.)
so! a word for every piece!
january: a sketch of cana im still awfully proud of! i used a poster of luke evans as bard the bowman from the hobbit trilogy as a base and im just! still shook
february: part 3 (summer) of my seasons levy drawings alas i never got to autumn it’s connected to one of my countless aus, where she is a forest guardian spirit
march: this piece of gajeel! (but with a the agender pride flag because i got up to editing it later) im still so fond of how it came out! i used it for discord icon for a while back then
april: a clothing/jewelry study i was doing! it is kind of connected to another au i shall never write. (yes. there are. a lot of them.)
may: the famous mermay piece! it was drawn for the first weekly challenge organized on the @gajevyevents discord server and i still think its one of best pieces. very proud of it
june: this amazing levy piece for pride month! i did a lot of drawings for pride as part of a project by @ft-wwtdp but this one is closer to my heart. shes a flower gorl,,,,
july: okay. this one? this one is one my favorite drawing i’ve ever done. it’s my phone wallpaper. it might? look silly and crappy compared to the rest? but it’s my favorite and i love it so much! it’s a silly pokemon au inspired by the pokemon 2014 masters division spectacular pachirisu. IM A NERD OKAY (theyre just. so soft.)
august: ALRIGHT! THIS! THIS ONE! this one is so dear to my heart because its a redraw of one ancient drawing of mine. back in the day i had a voltron au and this is levy’s design for that au but just. this drawing makes me go all soft.
september: this piece i did for @finweanladiesweek! it was the first silm fandom event i took part in and it still fills me with warmth. i had so much fun drawing it - september was when i caved in and finally bought clip studio paint and you can clearly see the difference in quality from there
october: my profile picture! god this one was so much fun, i will never forget it. i thought a lot about this one, whether i wanted to put it or the gajeel day piece i did, but in the end i found i liked this a little bit better.
november: alright, no lies here, i have only like 4 or 5 drawing from november because i was so busy with nanowrimo! this one is a gajeel design study. i struggled a lot between it and another similar piece (gajeel in full profile instead of 3/4) but at last decided on this one. its,,,, soft,,, he soft,,,
december: THIS BAD BOY! i poured hours upon hours of research on this one, it can fit so many artist crying fits. i still think its one of the best ive done, and its so shiny and bright.....
i dont think im supposed to reminisce so hard but it’s the end of the year and im just. im having a lot of feels, you know? i grew up a lot as person, both creative and personal-wise, a lot of things happened. im very happy with all the progress ive done and i cannot wait for what awaits me next year.
i hope 2019 was good to you and i wish you a happier and merrier 2020!
Is anyone interested in seeing/reading/’hearing‘ my modern AU FT headcanons (and hopefully story)? Please tell me if so. If this post gains... umm.. let’s say, 10-15 notes, I’ll start writing them.
Do you accept prompts? How do you feel about crack? Would you ever kill off a canon character? Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?
40 Questions — Meme for Fic Writers
1. i am! always! but i can be a little slow with writing out the prompt and i might bombard the sender with questions because im notoriously bad at working with prompts
2. i love reading crack, but im incredibly bad at writing it because i get like, hella serious about characters, especially if they’re my favorites. my kind of humor tends to be more “soft and domestic” that “wild”
3. yes. i would. i will. (looks at makarov. sorry old man)
4. i haven’t gotten rude comments, per se, but i’ve gotten weird comments. i usually stare at them awkwardly and try my best to think of how to respond to them. if i get rude messages (which ive gotten on tumblr! multiple times!), im usually very passive-aggressive or straight up “no”
Would send you that question 'bout 'which ship you'd write if you could only write one' but I've got a feeling it'd be gajevy. Am I right?
40 Questions — Meme for Fic Writers
i feel. so called out rn.
but actually, if i had do to choose “which is the ship you can only write published works about?” it’s be erzajane. because i love writing gajevy - but i write gajevy for myself, and i’d be satisfied that way. but i write erzajane not only for myself, but because its such a goddamn wholesome ship that deserves so much recognition and there are so many people i’ve met because of it, so the answer is erzajane
Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?
40 Questions — Meme for Fic Writers
ooh boy. there are a lot, but a few that come to mind...
high school fics. its not that i have anything against high school, per se, its that i find those really, really boring and dramatic for no reason. i also tend to enjoy writing characters who are already adults (in their 20s, usually) so high school was never my thing
love triangles. i absolutely hate love triangles, with such burning passion that its not even real. there is only one book that managed to pull off a love triangle and that was the hunger games. next question.
cheating. i really dont like that kind of stories because HONESTLY? if someone cheated on you, there’s a good chance its not even worth trying to work on that relationship.
same goes to “ooh the person i like is into/dating someone else, i have to win them back and/or prove how much over that i am.” i really tend to dislike that kind of stories
on a lesser note, “tragic” backstory = excuse for being a total shitbag and instant repemption. as i work for rewritten, my fairy tail fix-it project, im starting to realize how little backstory fairy tail’s villains actually have and it really bores me out. like wtf.
since this is a controversial topic and i have a rather controversial opinion, here’s your excuse to block me if you want
(this got kinda long so up putting it under read more)
first off, i dont know if i’ve stated it before (i think i have?) but i adore dark fiction. i like stories with drama, intrigue, manipulations and whatnot, especially when we’re talking about fantasy. i love it when the history of this world has a darker, more sinister side, i love it when the deeper you dig, the sicker it gets.
when reading (and writing) about things that are considered controversial, i tend to distance myself from the thing in question, because while fiction sometimes does affect the real world, its important to remember that fiction is fiction and that those people who write these things are perfectly normal people. (now, some of the readers who read that kinda stuff might be not, but a reader is not responsible for their readers beyond giving the proper warnings.)
when i write dark things, its usually venting. i write-vent a lot. i like channeling all those dark emotions i feel into words and i feel like, hella satisfied with myself. and when im not venting - im usually writing it because i love experimenting with the relationships between characters, because i love taking my favorite character, picking up their traits apart and using the things i love about them to make them monsters.
im not a huge fan of non-con. when it comes to smut fics (which stories including non-con usually are) i tend to enjoy stories with lots of emotion, lots of drama and preferably engaging plot. non-con stories tend to be pwp and that kind of stories i find utterly boring. non-con is, as a whole, a boring trope for me, because it lacks the level of character engagement i enjoy when reading and writing.
however, i do enjoy reading dub-con. there’s something utterly wrecking in that, watching a character forcing themself to do something they would never do under normal circumstances. especially if the character in question forms an attachment to their abuser. it’s just so fascinating, the way the human psyche warps its own perception of reality in a desperate attempt to spare itself more pain.
my main concern with dub-con (and non-con, for that matter) is whether it’s portrayed as such. those are vile and utterly evil things. they should be addressed as such. the author should know that the thing they’re writing is dark, the readers should know it, the characters should feel it. im here for the internal turmoil, for the suffering, for the gut-wrenching realization, for the trauma that is left behind. i have read many a fic when the relationship is portrayed as healthy, but everyone with eyes and some experience in romance can see red flags in the scenes leading up to the sex.
if you want to write romance and sex - and especially more hardcore things - educate yourself. learn the subtle difference in consent and lack of consent. and if you decide to go the dark road, be careful. if you want to write a toxic, unhealthy relationship, write it as such. don’t sugarcoat the sharp edges.
have i written dub-con? yes. in short snippets, mostly, because i was emotional and venting, and none of it is published. (there is one short shot i like and i might get around to posting, someday.) have i written non-con? only once, and half-finished by that because i lost interest. can’t say im particularly interested in continuing it, because that kind of relationships tend to strip away any engaging conversations between the characters involved in it.
will i write dub-con in the future? yes. yes, one hundred percent, because there is this story called ‘rotten petals’ that i cannot wait to write one day (and you can ask me about it if you’re interested, its a gajevy deity/priestess au and i have short snippet of it written) and i will hopefully post one day.
will i write non-con in the future? probably not! as i said, i dont find it particularly interesting to write.
im sorry how long and rant-y this got! thank you for the question!
GIVE ME A CHARACTER; and I’ll break their ass down:
How I feel about this character: uuuhhhh i dont really find him that interesting honestly? i like him, but not like, enough to get interested in him
All the people I ship romantically with this character: no one, really
My non-romantic OTP for this character: i quite like the banter between him and warren, i think they’re good friends
My unpopular opinion about this character: can we please forget the broom thing
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: maybe we could have learned more things about him? his magic is interesting and hes a pretty cool, laid-back guy, but that’s literally the only thing we know about him
