Pink Paper Patchwork: creating a Patchwork design card inspired by Kate Crane

This is my pink paper patchwork piece inspired by Kate Crane on YouTube.

I used my Gel Press to make an A4 sheet of patterned paper. It is just copier paper, nothing fancy.

For this pink patchwork print I used inks instead of paint. I didn’t know if it would work so it was a play day rather than a plan. It’s always good when these experiments work out.

At the beginning of university, and my first project, we looked at a narrative in which to base our works on. We did a workshop on mono-printing which I really enjoyed as I had only looked at the medium briefly previously. This was a good challenge and it was fun to experiment with different materials to create the marks, as well as different types of paper to create different textures.

Workshop: Printmaking

In this workshop, which consisted of two sessions, we looked at the basics of mono-printing and printing on the Risograph. The final product was a small booklet printed on the Riso using artwork created by the students. In the workshop we learned how to make unique, one-off prints uding the mono-printing technique, as well as how to use the Riso, which in turn gave me an idea to print my book for the Visual Communication module on this brilliant machine. This workshop was very useful as it taught us some valuable manual skills that every designer must have.
