This engraved design is from a late-20th century vector template that we inherited from one of our copper plate makers. With a little skill and patience and creativity, it is a digital master that allows for the creation of every combination of initials imaginable. A deep knowledge of typography comes in hand, too. Cleaning and organizing the studio here and finding more lovely bespoke monograms and ciphers created over the years for our clients. This design was hand engraved on half-inch thick steel then printed in a pale yellow on orange onion skin. This deep blue paper, shown, was from setting-up the press.
