OK now that I barked because colors mean much to me: find it interesting that looking at the list of traditional colors of Japan the closest shade to this lipstick seems to be the color benimidori, or "stained red" (source: me, color-picking). Didn't care to know that? Now you do
Just as trivia there was a division developed when it came to colors (mainly referring to clothing): permissible colors and forbidden colors (reserved for imperial officials etc)
Needless to say purples were generally reserved for nobility, but "commoners" in time would bend the rules via accessories
The medicine seller's other self wears at least four colors close to ones on the forbidden colors list (ochre, rich gardenia, sumac, sappanwood, deep scarlet). As they would, I mean no aesthetic mortal laws can cramp this style
