The spawning vat is where your adventure begins. You may encounter other monsters that either want to eat you or others in the vat with you. Depending on how you handle situations you gain different attributes and that helps determine what kind of monster you will be. I saved a fellow baby monster from being eaten by another at the expense of some wounds but it earned me points for braveness and kindness. After you escape the vat you move into a nursery area wher you personality is formed. You are prompted with multiple adventures to choose from, some may be to help others from being bullied or join the bullying to lying to help others not get in trouble and so on. How you handle each situation adds more points to a range of different attributes.
Your attributes include: bravery, kindness, cleverness, furosity, and more. As a young monster it is easy to gain points in these areas but once you become an adult your demenor is rooted more deeply and if you want to change it becomes more difficult. So going from nice to ferocious or vice versa is going to be difficult once you are an adult. When you hit adolescent and beyond you can grow your reputation. Reputation once again is based on your actions and you gain more for doing bold things. In my case I decided to attack a bear who was eating honey but ran off as fast as I could before the bear could react. When I got back and was telling my story to other monsters I lied and made the story sound much more grandieous. In doing so I gained a bunch of reputation and cleverness. There are endless situations like this that you can choose from any number of them and shape your monster however you feel.
Growing older means you will deal more with humans and that is a fun addition. You run into all sorts of different story book characters like Little Red Riding Hood, the Three Little Pigs, and many more. You can choose to gobble up the three little pigs or riding hood, or you can save them from that horrible wolf. It is completely up to you! Once you grow to the end of your adult life you can become an elder or return to the spawning vat where you will melt in and your greatness will continue on in other monsters. Either way is fun and by melting in you can go back and do your life over again.
The problem I had with this game is that it takes little skill and is literally clicking on text boxes to answer prompts. This is why I think this game would work great for children more that for an adult. The cute graphics and upbeat/acoustic music continues to lend Monster Loves You! toward a kids game. Unlike many kids games though its not a shallow throw away game. Each choice carries weight and changes how the game plays out. I think it would not only be something children would enjoy but something younger ones could learn from.
Monster Loves You! has a lot of good qualities and is very kid friendly but like I said above the lack of gameplay might turn adults off. The whole thing is smart, well made (Ran into 0 bugs), and the graphics and music are fun. It does cost a bit more than a throw away mobile game at $10 but like I said the game is deep and could provide a learning experience so don't just dismiss it because of the price. You can buy a 3 pack that saves you $10 so its a buy 2 get one free situation. If you have multiple kids and computers that might be the best way to go because once they get into this game they might fight over how much time each one gets to play this adorable engaging game.
