A Devil Head is a type of fiend that forms when a fiendish spirit possesses the remains of a mortal who met their demise through beheading. This usually occurs when particularly evil and cruel mortals are executed for heinous crimes by beheading. Their hateful spirit lingers in the mortal realm and they become Devil Heads. Devil Heads lurk in swamps, forests, graveyards, or unholy places, where they delight in ambushing and tormenting unsuspecting travelers. The Devil Head can assume the shape of a living mortal, usually a beautiful woman, a kindly old person, or a child. They use this form to lure in mortals before they attack. A Devil Head cannot maintain this form for very long (though precisely how long is unknown), and thus will soon reveal their true form: a floating head, wreathed in fire, with eyes that burn like hot embers. In this form, the Devil Head smells strongly of sulfur and brimstone. The Devil Head feeds on the fear and anguish of the living; thus it preys on mortals only to cause suffering.
