It was a lesson everyone had to learn eventually. A harsh lesson, but important. A lesson he’d had instilled in him from a young age through teachings, then reinforced by actions. She spoke like it was practical experience, though. Like one who had been harmed. It was a tone he knew well. One that echoed so many people he’d known.
