That's definitely the case for Montechiaro d'Acqui which is said to date back to around the 7th century AD. The historic centre in Montechiaro d'Acqui is very well-preserved, perhaps because it's perched up a high hill at over 500 metres above sea level and far off the beaten track in the Alessandria province. I could tell the village used to be fortified by the few ruins that remain such as the old church of Sant'Anna and the castle that's hidden in a small wood but situated at the highest point of the village. The views up there were to die for — though watch your step at the very top! Swiping through these photos I took at the beginning of the summer, I can't see any reason why Montechiaro d'Acqui shouldn't be listed as one of the prettiest villages in the province of Alessandria. That said, other villages along the valley are worth a mention, namely Denice with its iconic tower and Spigno Monferrato with its ancient Roman bridge. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: There's a train service running from Alessandria and Acqui Terme to Savona that stops at Montechiaro d'Acqui, but the village itself is at least an hour trek from the station. Sadly there isn't a bus to head up there 😕 but the hiking trail is easy to follow — just very demanding at times! ______________________________________ #montechiarodacqui #italia #italy #piedmont #piemonte_super_pics #shotz_of_piemonte #lonelyplanet #natgeoitalia #instadaily #instagood #italianvillages #bestdestinations #outdoorphotography #adventuremore #adventureculture #lensculture #italiasegreta #italygram #viaggiamoinitalia #bellaitalia #ig_italia #ig_alessandria #wonderful_places #beautifulmatters #italy_illife #raw_italy #thehub_piemonte #bestpiemontepics #piemontedascoprire #guardiantravelsnaps (at Montechiaro d'Acqui) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEFG2f2oGzG/?igshid=12dykhajk6lms
