⁣ Canon EOS 250D ⁣ Taken on 16/04/2022.⁣ ⁣ *⁣ Basilicata is a misshapen, green, rocky and mountainous piece of land stretching to two coasts and comprising the awkward instep of Italy's boot.⁣ ⁣ I say 'awkward' because there is no easy way in: no airports, no high-speed rail network and no major cities.⁣ ⁣ Matera is without a doubt gnarled crown jewel of Basilicata, but this little-visited region hides amazing works of art.⁣ ⁣ A short distance from Potenza is Tito, a town that was struck by an earthquake in 1980, leaving many people homeless. ⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 18mm | 1/160s | f/18 | ISO 100⁣⁣ Taken on 26/07/2020.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Deep in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park straddling the Aosta Valley and Piedmont regions, the Colle del Nivolet is one of Italy’s best-kept secrets.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ At 2,612 metres above sea level (after around 30 hairpin turns!), it is one of the highest roads in Europe and yet it is still virtually unknown to international visitors.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ As you might expect at this high altitude, it gets mighty windy even in the summer months. Make the most of the jaw-dropping views, though, before it can completely cloud over.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Fortunately it is possible to reach Colle del Nivolet, but (understandably) only during the summer months.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The bus company 'GTT' runs a service from Turin and Rivarolo Canavese to Lago Serrù, the lake that's further away in my photo. ⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 35mm | 1/3200s | f/4.5 | ISO 100⁣ Taken on 30/06/2020.⁣ ⁣ Straddling the border between the Langhe and Monferrato is a picturesque, wine-growing town called Canelli.⁣ ⁣ Known as the capital of Italian 'capitale dello spumante' (capital of sparkling wine) and a magnet for wine enthusiasts from all over the world, this vibrant town offers plenty of shops and excellent restaurants that go hand-in-hand with a glass of Moscato d'Asti.⁣ ⁣ Also famous in Canelli is the 'Via degli Innamorati' (Lovers' Street), a romantic path that winds its way from the bottom of the historic centre up to the bright yellow castle. ⁣ Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ ⁣ Taken on 24/02/2020.⁣ ⁣ * Repost *⁣ ⁣ I'd always longed to visit this ancient medieval hamlet – declared one of the most beautiful villages in Italy – and now I can say I finally have!⁣ ⁣ Surrounded by a wonderful hilly landscape, Santa Severina rises on a cliff at the centre of the valley with its majestic and mighty castle as its centrepiece.⁣ ⁣ The history of this breathtakingly beautiful village goes back as far as the 5th century B.C. and was colonised by the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines and the Arabs. As such, visitors can admire traces, remains and monuments left by these empires.⁣ ⁣ The Norman castle of Santa Severina, known as Carafa castle, was built in the 11th century in order to dominate the wide valley of the Neto river.
