Ortigara
La battaglia su Monte Ortigara fu combattuta tra il 10 e il 25 giugno 1917, tra assalti e contrassalti sugli aridi crinali tra l'Ortigara ed il sottostante, infernale, vallone dell'Agnella, morirono oltre 28.000 giovanissimi soldati italiani e 8.000 austroungarici.
Si tratta della più grande battaglia in quota mai combattuta, divenne nota come “il calvario degli Alpini”.
Sull'arida cima una colonna mozza eretta nel 1920 sono scolpite tre parole:
“per non dimenticare”.
Ortigara
The battle on Mount Ortigara was fought between June 10 and 25, 1917, between assaults and contrasalts on the arid ridges between the Ortigara and the underlying, infernal, valley of the Agnella, over 28,000 very young Italian soldiers and 8,000 Austro-Hungarians died.
It is the largest battle at altitude ever fought, it became known as "the ordeal of the Alpini".
Three words are carved on the arid top of a column erected in 1920:
"Lets We forget".
