Monte Valbella

Battaglia dei Tre Monti:

La battaglia, combattuta tra il 28 e il 31 gennaio 1918, vide gli italiani attaccare e riconquistare le posizioni sul Monte Valbella, con un massiccio impiego di artiglieria e l'azione di reparti come gli Arditi e la Brigata Sassari.

Battle of the Three Mountains:

The battle, fought between 28 and 31 January 1918, saw the Italians attack and recapture positions on Mount Valbella, with a massive use of artillery and the action of units such as the Arditi and the Sassari Brigade.

Cimiteri Monte Mosciagh

I cimiteri del Monte Mosciagh sono dei cimiteri militari austro-ungarici della Prima Guerra Mondiale, situati dopo la cima del monte.

-Cimitero Val Galmarara:

Contiene i resti di 121 soldati del 3° Reggimento Schützen; è composto da croci e da 4 lapidi.

-Mosciagh 1:

Contiene i resti di 289 soldati austriaci.

-Mosciagh 2:

È il più grande, con 853 soldati caduti della 22a Divisione Schützen.

-Mosciagh 3:

Meno accessibile, alle pendici del Monte Zebio, conteneva 209 tombe del 3° Reggimento Schützen.

Mount Mosciagh Cemeteries

The Mount Mosciagh cemeteries are Austro-Hungarian military cemeteries from the First World War, located below the summit of the mountain.

-Val Galmarara Cemetery:

Contains the remains of 121 soldiers of the 3rd Schützen Regiment; it consists of crosses and four gravestones.

-Mosciagh 1:

Contains the remains of 289 Austrian soldiers.

-Mosciagh 2:

It is the largest, with 853 fallen soldiers of the 22nd Schützen Division.

-Mosciagh 3:

Less accessible, on the slopes of Mount Zebio, it contained 209 graves of the 3rd Schützen Regiment.

I prototipi dell'elmetto, realizzati artigianalmente in quaranta esemplari da Franz Marx, vennero testati nel novembre del 1915 presso il poligono di Kummersdorf, mentre la prova del fuoco in battaglia ebbe luogo poco tempo dopo.

I buoni risultati sperimentati sul fronte di Verdun indussero anche l'Austria-Ungheria a dotarsi dello Stahlhelm, iniziando una produzione propria.

The prototypes of the helmet, handcrafted in forty copies by Franz Marx, were tested in November 1915 at the Kummersdorf polygon, while the battle test of fire took place shortly after.

The good results experienced on the Verdun front also led Austria-Hungary to equip itself with the Stahlhelm, starting its own production.

The Austrian model has the same shape as the German mod.1916 helmet.

Elmetto Adrian

Nell'autunno del 1915 i primi caratteristici elmetti in livrea francese, grigioazzurra venivano distribuiti ai reggimenti in prima linea.
L'elmetto, che sarà denominato dopo la guerra "Modello 15" si componeva di una calotta, una visiera anteriore ed una posteriore ed un cimierino che fungeva da copertura dello sfiatatoio.

Nel 1916 entrò in linea un secondo modello conosciuto come "Modello 16", prodotto in Italia, composto dalla calotta e dal cimierino saldato in sei punti alla calotta.

Come accessorio poteva montare la maschera protettiva "Dunand".

Adrian Helmet

In the fall of 1915, the first distinctive French-style, blue-gray helmets were distributed to front-line regiments. The helmet, which would be designated the "Model 15" after the war, consisted of a cap, a front and rear visor, and a peak that served as a vent cover.

In 1916, a second model, known as the "Model 16," produced in Italy, entered service. It consisted of a cap and a peak welded to the cap at six points.

As an accessory, it could be fitted with the "Dunand" protective mask.

Monte Ortigara

Alto 2.106 metri, durante la prima guerra mondiale è stata teatro di sanguinosissime battaglie, gli italiani persero 25.000 uomini, la maggior parte Alpini, da allora chiamato "calvario degli Alpini".

Qui un artigliere trovò una morte eroica a causa di un colpo diretto.

La lealtà verso la patria era considerata un loro dovere.

Caro fratello,
ricevo la tua gradita e rispondo subito. La mia salute prosegue sempre ottimamente come apprendo della tua e famiglia di Rina. Linda mi scrisse l’altro ieri, e anche loro stanno tutti bene. Solamente da Zanon ricevo poche nuove. Gustavo e Iona scrivono sovente. Novità ve ne sarebbero molte a raccontare ma ci vorrebbe ciò che a me manca: il tempo di scrivere. Posso dirti però che in questi ultimi giorni abbiamo fatto grandi progressi. Abbiamo conquistato trincee e fatto molti prigionieri. Così in tutto di fronte. Se appena ne avrò il tempo ti narerò il fatto che è succeduto nell’ultima avanzata che se va bene forse avrò 20 giorni di licenza. Io ò molta speranza così verrò a trovarvi tutti e ritornerò all’opera più contento.

Monte Piano e Monte Piana

Durante la prima guerra mondiale, la cima "ex austriaca" (Monte Piano) e quella "italiana" (Monte Piana) sono stati scenario di intense battaglie tra le truppe Italiane e quelle Austro-Ungariche grazie alla posizione strategica.

Tra il 1915 e il 1917 hanno perso la vita circa 14.000 soldati di entrambe le nazioni. Ancora oggi, sulla montagna, sono visibili i resti delle postazioni di guerra, baracche e trincee.

Monte Piano and Monte Piana

During the First World War, the "former Austrian" (Monte Piano) and the "Italian" peak (Monte Piana) were the scene of intense battles between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian troops thanks to the strategic position.

Between 1915 and 1917, about 14,000 soldiers from both nations lost their lives. Even today, on the mountain, the remains of the war positions, barracks and trenches are visible.

Medaglia di benemerenza per i volontari della guerra italo-austriaca 1915-1918.

La speciale medaglia di benemerenza per i volontari degni di encomio della guerra italo-austriaca del 1915-1918 fu istituita con R.D. n. 1163 del 1923 dal governo italiano che, terminata la prima guerra mondiale ritenne opportuno creare un segno tangibile di riconoscimento per tutti coloro che erano accorsi volontari all'appello della Patria in armi.

Medal of merit for the volunteers of the Italian-Austrian war 1915-1918.

The special medal of merit for the volunteers worthy of commendation of the Italian-Austrian war of 1915-1918 was established with R.D. n. 1163 of 1923 by the Italian government which, at the end of the First World War, considered it appropriate to create a tangible sign of recognition for all those who had volunteered to the appeal of the Homeland in arms.

Per Trento Basto Io!

Progettato dal tenente del Genio ing. Rudolf Schneider, Forte Belvedere/Werk Gschwent fu costruito tra il 1908 e il 1912. La Fortezza è stata realizzata su uno sperone di roccia che si innalza sopra la Val D'Astico, che all’epoca segnava il confine tra il Regno d’Italia e l’Austria-Ungheria, nel comune di Lavarone, bastione difensivo del Trentino meridionale contro l’esercito italiano.

Attrezzata con tre obici in cupola corazzata e ben 22 postazioni di mitragliatrice, è tra le più grandi fortezze austro-ungariche di montagna, progettata per resistere in autonomia durante gli interminabili giorni di bombardamenti.

I'm Enough For Trento!

Designed by Lieutenant of the Engineer ing. Rudolf Schneider, Fort Belvedere/Werk Gschwent was built between 1908 and 1912. The Fortress was built on a rock spur that rises above the Val D'Astico, which at the time marked the border between the Kingdom of Italy and Austria-Hungary, in the municipality of Lavarone, a defensive bastion of southern Trentino against the Italian army.

Equipped with three armored dome howitzers and 22 machine gun stations, it is one of the largest Austro-Hungarian mountain fortresses, designed to withstand independently during the endless days of bombing.

Medaglia per i difensori di Arras 1914-1918 (La Medaille des Defenseurs d'Arras 1914-1918).

Sul dritto, un soldato francese e un soldato britannico, su uno sfondo di rovine, sono uniti nella difesa di Arras e dell'Artois.

Sul rovescio, il Leone delle Fiandre si erge davanti al municipio e al campanile di Arras, schiacciando l'aquila tedesca.

I difensori di Arras, durante la prima guerra mondiale, facevano parte delle armate alleate che parteciparono alla Battaglia di Arras nel 1917. Le armate principali schierate in quel settore erano la 1ª armata, la 3ª armata e la 5ª armata. Queste armate erano sotto il comando, rispettivamente, di Henry Horne, Edmund Allenby e Huber Gough. 

Medal for the Defenders of Arras 1914-1918 (La Medaille des Defenders d'Arras 1914-1918).

On the obverse, a French soldier and a British soldier, against a background of ruins, are united in the defense of Arras and Artois.

On the reverse side, the Lion of Flanders stands in front of the town hall and the bell tower of Arras, crushing the German eagle.

The defenders of Arras, during World War I, were part of the allied armies that participated in the Battle of Arras in 1917. The main armies deployed in that sector were the 1ª army, the 3ª army and the 5ª army. These armies were under the command of Henry Horne, Edmund Allenby and Huber Gough respectively.

Monte Mazze

Le trincee di Malga Granezzetta erano parte della “Linea arretrata di resistenza” che si estendeva da Col d’Astiago ad est fino a Monte Paù ad ovest. Furono scavate lungo il pendio che scende da Monte Mazze e che costeggia il Pian di Granezza, per un'estensione di circa 1500 metri.

Ricavate principalmente scavando la viva roccia, per assicurare adeguata protezione dal tiro d'artiglieria, hanno un elevato grado di conservazione e in alcuni tratti sono mirabili esempi di architettura militare.

Si possono ancora facilmente individuare postazioni di mitragliatrice ed i ricoveri in caverna per proteggere le truppe in caso di bombardamento.

Monte Mazze

The trenches of Malga Granezzetta were part of the "Rearward Line of Resistance" that extended from Col d'Astiago in the east to Monte Paù in the west. They were excavated along the slope that descends from Monte Mazze and that runs along the Pian di Granezza, for an extension of about 1500 meters.

Obtained mainly by digging the living rock, to ensure adequate protection from artillery fire, they have a high degree of conservation and in some sections they are admirable examples of military architecture.

Machine gun stations and cave shelters can still be easily identified to protect troops in case of bombing.

Asiago

Il sacrario militare di Asiago, più noto come sacrario del Leiten, è uno dei principali ossari militari della prima guerra mondiale. Sorge sul colle del Leiten (pronuncia Laiten) presso Asiago, in Veneto, a 1058 m s.l.m.

Nel sacrario riposano i resti di 54.286 caduti italiani ed austro-ungarici della guerra 1915-1918 di cui 33.253 ignoti e 3 della guerra 1940-1945.

I nominativi dei soldati noti sono incisi, in ordine alfabetico, da sinistra a destra sui singoli loculi.

I resti mortali dei 21.491 caduti italiani ignoti e degli 11.762 austro-ungarici ignoti sono invece raccolti in grandi tombe comuni nelle gallerie centrali più prossime alla cappella.

Asiago

The military shrine of Asiago, better known as the shrine of Leiten, is one of the main military ossariums of the First World War. It rises on the Leiten hill (pronounced Laiten) near Asiago, in Veneto, at 1058 m a.s.l.

In the shrine are the remains of 54,286 fallen Italians and Austro-Hungarians of the 1915-1918 war, of which 33,253 are unknown and 3 from the 1940-1945 war.

The names of the known soldiers are encised, in alphabetical order, from left to right on the individual loculi.

The mortal remains of the 21,491 unknown Italians and the 11,762 unknown Austro-Hungarians are instead collected in large common tombs in the central galleries closest to the chapel.

La marcatura "SMI 916" indica che il bossolo è stato fabbricato dalla Società Metallurgica Italiana nell'anno 1916. Questa marcatura è tipica delle munizioni utilizzate durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale, in particolare quelle per il fucile Carcano Mod. 91 e il moschetto, che erano le armi standard dell'esercito italiano in quel periodo. 

The marking “SMI 916” indicates that the case was manufactured by the Italian Metallurgical Society in 1916. This marking is typical of the ammunition used during the First World War, in particular those for the Carcano Mod. 91 rifle and the musket, which were the standard weapons of the Italian army at that time.
