On her wedding day, Grace didn’t expect to see Julia all that much, especially not with too much time on her hands to have a conversation with her. But it wasn’t the bride had made her way towards her, gliding across the dance floor, and Grace was beckoned into the bathroom to check and touch up her makeup that she realised just how little time Julia had to herself that day. But, she reasoned, that might not be the point of a wedding.

“I’m surprised you asked me to help with makeup, I’m basically useless,” she quipped from the stool by the makeup table, a champagne flute in one hand, her tiny almost useless purse thing in the other, and a spare flute of champagne on the table. “And since I’m under strict instructions not to produce too much alcohol for you, I’m not sure I can do anything but distract you. The cake, by the way, looks amazing. You were worried for nothing.”

She placed it down as she walked over to the dresses hung up in one of the sitting rooms, ready to be picked up by each brides maid. As she ran a hand down the satin fabric, her head turned to find Julia standing in the door frame. A gentle smile over taking her features, “13 more days!” She squealed, excitedly. “All ready for your bridal party,” she said, waving a hand over the line of mannequins dressed with the gowns. “Aren’t they absolutely stunning?”
