Help with difficult situation, monthly contract
Hi - I'm in a third world country tryin to use AirBnB for a room.I booked a room for a month because I need to hunker down and study. I'm spending too much time looking for rooms and asking all the possible qualifying questions - is there a key now to the room, does the window work, stuff like that.I booked for a month with an American who has a few rooms. I booked based on what I perceived to be a large room with a window. When I arrived he texted me and said my room was the one IN the kitchen... yes, the kitchen, the small room, with a window to a wall. The room was dirty... poop stains in the toilet, no seat on the toilet, currently leaking sink, dirty towel, no shower curtain, etc. When I brought this up to him he got mad and said I was trying to build a case and that the room was as clean as when he left it. (no justification for any of this plus claims to not know about the leaking sink with the bucket under it).He offered another room if someone didn't stay, but they decided to stay.I tried to change the dates but it charges me more. This is not how I read the cancellation policy (moderate) which said that if I changed or cancelled I would get half back.I don't have it in me for a fight, and this guy seems to be ready to fight - he is defensive at everything I say.I sent an email this morning - I spent the night at a different AirBnB - asking again what my options were, including this snippet"If there is a complaint from either party, notice must be given to Airbnb within 24 hours of check-in. I DID NOT DO THIS Airbnb will mediate when necessary, and has the final say in all disputes. A reservation is officially canceled when the guest clicks the cancellation button on the cancellation confirmation page, which they can find in Dashboard > Your Trips > Change or Cancel. I STOPPED THIS PROCESS THIS MORNING WHEN I FOUND THE PRICE WENT UP WHEN I DID IT. Cancellation policies may be superseded by the Guest Refund Policy, NOT SURE WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS extenuating circumstances, I GOT A ROOM DIFFERENT THAN WHAT I THOUGHT or cancellations by Airbnb for any other reason permitted under the Terms of Service. I CAN REVIEW THIS Please review these exceptions."So he changed the pictures mid stream, or I remembered incorrectly or something else.In either case, it's really bad. it's a dirty small room. I can't stay there. Can anyone help me find a way out without losing 100% or paying more?TL:DR I got a dirty small room when I thought I was getting a nice large room. AirBnB is a defensive American. I did not file a complaint. Want to work it out, but AirBnB knows he has the upper hand. Get $20 off your first AirBnB stay.
