Adjacent to the well-known Monumento a los Heroes de la Independencia, I did not take a note about what this monument may commemorate. The cardons, which look very much like the saguaro of the Sonoran desert in North America, grow at elevations from about 2-4,000 m in the Andes and unlike the Saguaro are adapted to cold.
