oh yeah see and i'd never even heard that line lol i've been in love with anders since awakening it never crossed my mind to refuse to help him. in-game reasonings aside, i feel like its best to sometimes take the things anders says/does, particularly in act 3, with a grain of salt bc the writers pretty much hate anders too, and they WANT you to kill him at the end of the game so it ends up feeling like everything iffy he says is all in an attempt to make the player want to kill him =/

i feel like anders' actions in act 3 were less about being manipulative and more about giving hawke an out? i mean he fully expects to die, for hawke to be the one to kill him even. without telling hawke what he was actually doing, hawke can truthfully say they had no idea what anders was going to do and they wouldnt have helped him if they did. i guess you could argue that's still manipulative but it just doesn't seem very malicious to me

Hmm, his lie is absolutely him trying to keep Hawke safe, honestly. He even states it. Which is again why I really can’t hold it against him lmao there is no malicious intent at all from him
