Anatomy of a fall
I watched Anatomy of a Fall today. I really liked it—there’s just so much to unpack, so much to talk about, so much to try to understand.
And that’s the thing, isn’t it? Our need to understand everything that happens to us. Samuel’s death came as a shock. How could it happen? How could it be so simple? But the truth is—we never really know. We can’t.
And does not knowing make it easier? It doesn’t. It only becomes a matter of what we choose to believe.
What struck me was how hard it was for the court—and the people around—to believe that someone could take their own life. It’s easier to look for someone to blame than to understand someone’s pain.
They couldn’t grasp Samuel’s state of mind. Was he playing the victim, or was he desperately trying to be understood? A person is so complex. And when someone makes the decision to end their life, that complexity makes it nearly impossible for others to make sense of it.
His own therapist couldn’t understand him. Then who could?
It makes you ask—can one person ever truly understand another’s pain, their suffering? But even more than that—can you help someone who isn’t ready or willing to accept help?
Michael Corleone was always meant to rule — but that’s what destroyed him
sharing something i wrote after thinking about The Godfather again. i’ve always seen michael not just as a character caught in fate, but as someone who was always meant to rule—just in a different way. here’s my reflection:
i don’t think michael was ever dragged into the family business—he was always meant to rule. it was in him. people say he found happiness in sicily, but i don’t believe that. even there, he was using his name, his power. he wasn’t hiding, he was waiting. waiting for the right moment. the calling was already there.
apollonia’s death didn’t bring him back—it just cut off the last string tying him to a different life. he would’ve come back anyway. he was made for it.
don vito loved him deeply, but maybe that love became a kind of blindness. he wanted better for michael, so he kept him away from the mess. but michael didn’t want safety—he wanted control. and when he finally took it, he held on too tightly. he never let go. and that’s how he ended up powerful, but alone.
i always go back to that one scene—the flashback, where the family’s talking about michael joining the military. and he’s there, quiet, on the side. not part of the decision. not included. maybe if vito had brought him in from the start—mentored him, trusted him—michael could’ve changed everything. made the family clean. he had that vision, that calm, that mind.
they would’ve made a great team. but they never saw eye to eye.
and maybe that’s why the godfather is what it is. it’s not just a story about crime or power—it’s a tragedy. it shows you how your choices shape you, yes, but also how your circumstances do. and how, even in all that mess, you still have the power to change.
that’s why it stays with me. because michael could’ve been so much more.

In any case, tomorrow, it's your turn, greeceskitty~.
And for November 6, you go, truebluesurferdude~
Good luck! :P

can you do MakotoxHaru, #33 celebrity/fan AU?? :3
(Thank you for this, ah, I really wanted to get one~. songoshen)
A singer whose photos and interviews were not edited with lies is rare, but they do exist, apparently. Rin mentions him first and Nagisa mentions him second. He seems to be up to date with these sorts of celebrities and magazines. He is more like Nagisa than they would like to admit.
Haruka does not find it surprising when Nagisa shoves a concert ticket in his face and he does not find it surprising that Rin insisting in that he’d take a day off from the restaurant and tag along to see the famous Makoto Tachibana sing live for the very first time.
"I don’t want to." He says with a flat voice as Nagisa calls him for the umpteenth time to remind him about the concert on the weekend.
“Come on, Haru-chan. It’ll be lots of fun! Sure, you can’t swim there, but… But Mako-chan is a really nice person and I said I’d be there! And you’re the only one with a car that can take me!"
Haruka knows Nagisa is lying. He could easily ask Rin. Rin has a car. And Nagisa likes Rin’s friends. They can easily fit in there, even if someone has to sit in someone else’s lap.
"Call a taxi. It’s too much work to go." Haruka says and adds, feeling annoyed, "What is so special about going to a stranger’s concert?" He thinks he can watch it in television. Or he can listen to music in the radio if he wants to.
“Mako-chan’s not a stranger! He’s my friend, and you’re going to that concert no matter what! I’ll pick you up at eight!"
"Nagisa-"
Beep, beep, beep…
"…" Haruka slowly puts the phone down.
He is not surprised when Nagisa is there at eight and is dragging him to a very familiar car. Haruka stares at the window as Sasabe drives and chats happily with Nagisa about some nonsense.
Nagisa decides to lock their arms together after they get off and walk to their spots in the large auditorium. He probably thinks Haru will run away, but Haruka knows he will stay even if Nagisa lets him go. Now that he is there, he thinks he should stay and see this friend of Nagisa’s.
Rin shows off his shark-like teeth as he waves at them and Haru is forced to run along with Nagisa to join them. Aiichirou smiles at them and cringes at the “Hi, Ai-chan!” from Nagisa. Sousuke merely looks at them, and Momotarou looks disappointed to see Gou did not come with them.
Soon, all of the seats are filled, and some of them are even standing. Haruka wonders briefly why the standing people are so determined to stay in there. He imagines that even if the audience was quiet, they would still not be able to hear the music very clearly.
The lights dim and music begins to play. Haruka can see Nagisa lean forward in his seat and he is now resting his arms on the back of the seat in front of him to look more closely.
Then, he comes onstage.
Warm green eyes and a welcoming smile blow the audience away. His own blue eyes falter at the sudden warm feeling in his chest. Nobody notices him leaning forward, just like Nagisa, but he has enough manners to not rest his arms on somebody’s else seat.
His singing is nice too, and the lyrics are sweet. They sound just like this Makoto would sound like if he spoke to someone.
After the concert is over (it feels like it ended too quickly), the crowd is forced to disperse and Makoto is surrounded by too many people for him to approach the singer.
Haruka is dropped off by Goro and Nagisa and he is too distracted to even say good night to them. He repeats the songs over and over in his head as he lies in bed. For once, he is not thinking about what time he could go swimming in the next day.
Soon, he owns as many of Makoto’s discs as his swimsuits. He insists he buys them casually, because he likes the music. Rin smirks when he sees a whole shelf filled with the celebrity’s merchandise.
"Nagisa can get an autograph." Sharkboy teases him. Haruka ignores him, giving him the cold shoulder instead.
He finds that even while swimming, he can imagine Makoto’s voice singing motivational lyrics to him. He finds it annoying sometimes. But sometimes, he likes hearing them.
He freaks out a little and he is confused. He calms down after he convinces himself that he has simply become a fan of Makoto, but he can’t push that nagging feeling that it is something else.
Then, during a rainy day, his luck finally strikes.
He sees a crowd running and screaming together on the opposite sidewalk. He ignores it and looks forward. If another celebrity has arrived, he does not want to see him or her. Makoto seems to be the best one out of their world, anyway.
Then, he sees a tall man stumbling across an intersection and watches as his cap and shades fall off in all of his hurry. He widens his eyes slightly.
It’s him.
He doesn’t know what pushes him to run after him, dropping the umbrella and his bag full of ingredients. But he runs as fast as he can run on ground, which is not as quick as his swimming.
He grabs the tall singer’s wrist and begins to run with him. Makoto looks shocked but he can’t say anything, because the crowd tries to keep up.
They finally lose them when Haruka forces Makoto to hide in an alleyway with him, and the crowd runs past them. Haru knows it is a fortune it is raining and they can’t see very well.
The two boys pant and breathe air for a good while, not looking each other. They are only staring at the ground.
Makoto says something first. “Thank you.” He breathes.
Haruka keeps looking away. He does not say anything, but he does walk with Makoto back into the crowded sidewalk.
"It’s Ma-!!!"
They should have thought about getting a disguise before going out again.
Makoto pulls Haruka this time, even though the shorter one has no reason to run. He still runs and Haru leads them into what he thinks is the best hiding spot.
Makoto doesn’t think the same way.
"We can’t be here!!! This place is abandoned!!" Makoto complains, holding onto Haru’s shoulders.
"Then, do you want to get chased again?" Haruka asks in what is hopefully a monotone. He gets those weird feelings of warmth again and he does not like it.
"No, but…" Makoto sighs.
"… Here." Haru ignores the stunned expression on the celebrity’s face as he takes off his sweater and holds it out to him. "You can hide your face with it."
"I… Thank you." The other smiles sheepishly and takes the sweater. Haruka has to look away again. He hopes he looks disinterested. He keeps his smile as he asks, "What is your name?"
Haru doesn’t know why there is a slight falter to his voice when he answers, “Nanase. Haru-uka Nanase.”
"I am Makoto Tachibana. It is nice to meet you, Haru." Haruka turns to look at Makoto quickly.
For some reason, Makoto seems to know he is annoyed. “Sorry! I should have asked you if you wanted me to call you that!” He says nervously.
Haru looks away. Even apologies from the celebrity make the warm feeling in his chest expand painfully. He feels light-headed.
"I really do have to thank you though. You saved me from that crowd. I like having fans, but they can get a little overwhelming." He says, smiling. Haru can say for a fact that he is always polite to his fans and believes him when he says that. He is not a fake person. In fact, he even introduced himself when he didn’t need to. He could have just assumed Haruka knew his name already.
Realizing that made him feel weird again.
He doesn’t realize he has been staring at Makoto now until the latter lets out a little shout. “I forgot! I have to be at the studio right now!” He exclaims, freaking out. Haruka watches him calmly as he pulls out his cell phone and tries to explain the situation to his screaming manager (“Rei, I swear I was being chased!”).
After a few minutes of ranting and Haru watching almost amused, Makoto turns to him and smiles at him. It is a beautiful smile and Haruka looks away again.
"I have to go. Thank you again, Haru." He says in a sweet voice and Haruka almost misses the fond expression on his face after he finishes saying that.
In all of his focus on his beating heart and the determination of not looking at the other boy in the eyes, he does not notice that Makoto fumbling with a pen and he does not notice how he leaves a piece of paper in his sweater when the celebrity hands it back to him, saying, “I don’t need it!”
When he is home and he looks for his wallet, Haru finds the piece of paper and almost is tempted to smile.
"Let’s see each other again.
