Some of them existed before Eren's dad was born, so there could be a whole host of other things that make people into Titans. It could be a dormant gene that only activates in extreme survival situations (we all saw how traumatised Eren was when he first turned). It could be the injection, or maybe there'll be a twist and it'll turn out that /all/ humans are Titans. It's a mystery!

Wow i’m becoming so curious to know the truth, this show is amazing i’m loving it even more now. I have a flow of thoughts and questions going on my head right now but i think i'll just wait..

And both the Colossal Titan and the Armoured Titan attacked the weakest parts of the wall to let the other Titans through. Comparing that kind of intelligence and planning to the scene where all the Titans are pressing themselves against the wall because there was a crowd of people standing at the top, it would have been easy for someone like Armin to figure out that the Titans were actually humans. Especially because, from what the shota wonder had seen, (to be continued)

I think Armin knew they were people because, from what they studied about Titans in training, Titans have no 'real' intelligence. They usually just wander around looking for people to eat and seem to be unaware of their weak spot at their nape. But the Female Titan was constantly protecting her weak spot, showing intelligence. And she seemed to be working towards a specific goal; she spared Armin and only killed those trying to stop her, not eating any of them. (I'll finish this in another ask)

But there are also other types of abnormal titans and one of them appeared at the same episode where the female titan appeared, and it didn’t attack them. So Armin must also studied about that type too, why didn’t he just say that the female titan is one of those abnormals who doesn’t attack humans, why he just immediately decided it could be a human?!? That what confused me.
