it's popular for a reason. i love this one, i like the style, i like the contrast of the timeline, and its hollanov roomates in switzerland. whats not to love. AND it also has a great sequel (open house) about them from a few other POVs, including a rookie on Shane's team. in love with another rookie. amazing stuff i cant believe this author is anonymous. the larger series has some great stuff too.

this is THE heated rivalry fic to me. why would you even read the books when you could read this masterpiece instead. yes its that serious. by the amazing @milominderbindered on here, god i love this one. many a reread in my future, it was just recently completed and i cant even express how happy the 222,222 word count made me. truly beautiful.

oh my god i fucking LOVE this one. vignettes of them together, being unable to ignore the roles they play in each others lives? being sweet together, the yearning of not giving something back that ilya left in shane's house. you won't get it unless you read it but. the sock. dude. that is my shane hollander. i love him so much. seriously so good.

Shane felt even more baffled.
âThe owner of the hotel,â Ilya said.
âI know,â Shane said. He just couldnât imagine Ilya interacting with that sweet woman. Or her asking him to call her by her first name. âWhy? I mean, why did you get them?â
âYou have better things to do?â Ilya asked.
âI have a phone. And a laptop. And thereâs a television,â Shane said.
Ilya squinted dismissively. âScreen is bad. Melts your brain.â
âYou sound like my mom,â Shane said, a little softer than he intended and smiling reluctantly.
Ilya tilted his head. âThis does it for you?â
Shane and Ilya learn what it's like spending time together with their clothes still on.
i absolutely adore this whole series. i really really love all the different ways that authors explore them becoming closer, that transition from fuckbuddies to (sorry shane) lovers. it is so fascinating to me, and this series is the best of it. a couple more from this series, (perfect from now on) seriously there are GOOD ones in here:

Never mind the next two weeks, the next eight hours stretched endlessly in front of him. He had no idea how to occupy his time. His house was basically empty, which sounded sad but was really a good thing, evidence heâd built himself the life he wanted â where he always had something to do, outside and with other people. Ilya had been restless for as long as he could remember, had never been able to sit still. Heâd gotten in trouble for it as a kid at the dinner table and he got in trouble for it as a full grown man on the team bus. Heâd gotten in trouble for it when the doctors had been trying to take the x-ray, his leg jumping without his permission.
Ilya gets injured, stops leaving the house, loses his mind, learns to read tarot, and sends Shane Hollander a lot of photos.

âYes?â Ilya said.
âI think itâs different for us. I donât want us to be all blissful and then only start fighting when weâre back to barely seeing each other. ridiculously sweet, they just love each other idk man. the yearning. i absolutely love how they make it more than friendship here, it's beautiful. best friends, met in college, two week roadtrip together. its just great.
