It's only now that I've realized that I tend to give Dal some type of martial artist/rpg brawler outfit whenever he's in a setting with lots of fights. Or at the very least I gravitate toward the idea, with the alternate option being clothes that scream 'healer.'
I mean just look at Moomore here; he's a brawler in the Dark World of Deltarune, and gives off that same vibe in the Team Evoke AU. Not 100% on the latter 'fit, but maybe one day I'll get there.
...And to answer DR!Moomore's question, Evoke!Moomore is indeed a mixed attacker, but he initially relies on physical attacks until he gets the hang of using magic.
Okay originally I was just gonna draw Fell!Dal as like a human counterpart to MooFell, but then it became a comparison between him and the the other two "classic" versions before I knew what was going on.
Yes, I have a problem :'D
Also yes, you read that final note correctly; unlike Classic!Dal, Fell!Dal does not escape the Underground. You know you've hit the odd section of your brain when you start thinking of ways a character would survive in one AU and wouldn't make it in another >_>"
I'd also typed up a small snippet of Fell!Paps' interactions with Fell!Dal before he died, but... yeah I think I'll save it for its own picture, if I ever get around to drawing a scene like that =3=
What's with that look, Sans? Never seen a real sea cow before?
Or maybe you're still struck silent by the fact that you actually fell off a boat... But don't worry, I'm sure this bewildered bovine will help you! Maybe he'll be kind enough to grab the slipper ya just lost, too... XD
I can already tell that this is the beginning of a remarkable friendship =w=
*I CAN'T SAY I REMEMBER MEETING YOU BEFORE... BUT JUST IN CASE, HELLO AGAIN! HOW CAN TEAM EVOKE HELP YOU TODAY?
*You have a feeling you've seen this person before... You can't put your finger on where, though.
*AS A REMINDER, WE ACCEPT ANY AND ALL REQUESTS SUBMITTED TO THE GUILD, NO MATTER THE CATEGORY! AND YES, THAT INCLUDES ESCORT MISSIONS!
*You silently pray to every conceivable god that they're not here for an escort mission...
~
You were probably expecting a different Dal and skelebro, weren't you? Sorry about that; PMD's been on the brain and after glancing at my inbox, so was this UT/PMD crossover. I mostly just got the urge to draw Blue again XD
"MWEH HEH HEH! YOU LOOK RIGHT AT HOME IN THE WATER, MY FRIEND! AREN'T YOU WORRIED ABOUT YOUR CLOTHES GETTING WET?"
(Huh... he's got a point. Feels like I should be worried about catching a cold like this... But I'm not...?)
(...Eh. It's warm today, my clothes'll dry off quick, right? Plus I have all this fur now...)
"...BUDDY?"
"Eh-? I'm fine! Not a big deal. You should be worried about falling, though!"
"NONSENSE! I HAVE IMPECCABLE BALANCING SKILLS, AND EVEN IF BY SOME CHANCE I DO FALL, YOU'RE RIGHT THERE!"
(Still don't get why a skeleton can't swim, though...)
"...OH, I KNOW! WAIT FOR ME BY THE SHORE!"
"What? Why?"
"OUR DESTINATION IS SETTLED ALONG THIS VERY RIVER! IF I RIDE ON YOUR BACK, WE'LL GET THERE FASTER! PLUS, WELL..."
"Plus...?"
"I'VE... ALWAYS WANTED TO FLOAT DOWN A STREAM. I'VE SEEN OTHER AQUATIC MONSTERS DO IT, AND IT LOOKED FUN... HUMOR ME?"
(Okay, THAT face is adorable. And I gotta give him props, it's a good idea; we probably would get there faster if we went by water. He doesn't look too heavy for me, either... Maybe I've got more muscle since I'm a monster now?)
(...Welp, only one way to find out!)
~~~
Blue's the one whose ideas pop up in half a second. Moomore's the one whose ideas show themselves after a bit of pondering.
Good to have a balance between those two mindsets. owo)b
Let's face it, the perfect monster to fit the role of a PMD-esque Partner would be none other than The Magnificent Swap!Sans!
Sticking the info under a readmore since it's a bit long =w=""
In this Monster-only world, those who can use magic are fewer and farther between with each generation, the cause of which remains unknown. Blue can hardly use his own, and has only been able to summon one, count 'em, one bone attack in his life. This bone became the cross-guard of his sword, which he wields with pride as he trains to join the Delta Guild, an organization dedicated to exploring the Labyrinths scattered across the land. From finding treasures, gathering resources, rescuing those who are lost amidst the mysterious mazes, to chasing after criminals, the members of the Delta Guild do it all. They truly are the heroes of this land!
And while Blue wouldn't hesitate to aid those in need, his true desires are a bit more personal: to find three people that were near and dear to him and his brother. Said brother is too weak to endure what the Labyrinths may throw, and Blue himself cannot become an apprentice alone. Per guild rules, apprentices must either join an existing team or form one of their own, and only after gaining enough experience in the eyes of the higher-ups are they allowed to go solo.
...Pretty hard to do when all potential partners either have a satisfied roster already or aren't interested...
Then comes the fateful day when a new face arrives in Blue's humble hometown... a sea cow named Moomore! Odd name, and that's coming from a guy named after a color!
Through a series of... yet-to-be-thought-out events, Moomore and Blue find themselves in a Labyrinth, and during a moment of respite, Moomore confesses his predicament: he has amnesia, and is on a journey to jog his memories. Blue doesn't hesistate to offer his help, even if he doesn't know to begin doing so! Not every day someone loses their memories, after all!
And it feels like this guy is shrouded in mysteries. Saying odd things that Blue doesn't fully understand, always staring off into space before speaking, and to top it all off, he can use magic!! And while it's clear that he's forgotten how to use it effectively, this bovine still means business in battle! To say that Blue's impressed would be an understatement!
Which is why, once they finally find the exit, Blue asks the question he's asked dozens of others:
"PLEASE FORM A TEAM WITH ME?"
When you think about it, signing up at the guild would do nothing but benefit Moomore in particular! The guild is actively seeking those who can still use magic, and there's bound to be a monster or two that could help Moomore learn to control his watery powers. And as you rise through the ranks, you're given permission to travel to all sorts of areas, so seeing new sights and meeting new people are sure to jog the poor guy's memory!
And the best part, he won't have to go alone! As his Partner, Blue will be right there beside him!
Moomore is hesitant, especially since as apprentices they'll have to go into those crazy Labyrinths one way or another... but it's not like Moomore can think aof anything else. Plus, as the saying goes, "It's dangerous to go alone!"
"THAT'S A FINE SAYING TO LIVE BY! WHERE'D YOU HEAR IT FROM?"
Haha, good question... he has no clue. There's a lot of things he doesn't have a clue about...
...Yup, no matter which way he points it, Moomore has to admit that Blue's got a point. Being a guild member would help him way more that wandering aimlessly...
...Alright, he's convinced.
"...YES? YOU WILL?!" Huh. Apparently skeleton monsters could have literal stars in their eyes if they wanted.
"THANK YOU, MOOMORE, THANK YOU!! YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED, I PROMISE!! IN FACT... I THINK I ALREADY HAVE THE PERFECT TEAM NAME IN MIND!!"
Oh yeah? What is it?
"LET'S CALL OURSELVES... TEAM EVOKE!! IN HONOR OF YOUR QUEST TO EVOKE YOUR MISSING MEMORIES!"
Just when Moomore thought this skeleton couldn't get any sweeter...
~~~
I find it sad how I could struggle for hours on end on a name for an actual PMD team, yet figuring out a name for this team took me... what, half an hour of on-and-off thinking?
...Welp, better not look a gift horse in the mouth =w=
Ended up thinking of this either shortly before or shortly after I posted the pic of Rockruff!Dal and Sawk. Basically it's a weird mesh of Undertale and PMD. Less of a crossover and more Undertale borrowing various elements from PMD. No Pocket Monsters anywhere, only UT Monsters.
...So at that point it's more of a basic dungeon-crawler RPG than anything else =w="
Dal is a human that was somehow sent to this world, and is found by Toriel in the Ancient Ruins, a place that was once a normal area before one day transforming into a Mystery Dungeon, or as they're called in this world, a Labyrinth. Labyrinths are dangerous, packed with all kinds of puzzles, traps, Monsters that are sliiightly more feral, and folks are known to get lost/stuck in them if they're not careful. Or if they're just adventure-hungry/treasure hunting idiots.
Dal follows the usual PMD protag formula of having amnesia this time around, unlike Rockruff!Dal. Can't remember anything other than his name, his age, general facts/knowledge and that he's a human. But while his personal memories are gone, the emotions linked to those memories still remain, and he eventually starts recalling things if current events mimic them well enough. Toriel's motherly behavior towards him is a good example; one bite of her cooking, clearly done with love and care, is enough to trigger Dal's memories of his own mother, albeit faintly. He doesn't remember Celeste's face, voice, or even her name, but what little he does recall is enough to drive him to silent tears.
And while Toriel isn't going to stop him from finding other ways to jog his memory, she is quick to warn him of one very important thing: Never let anyone find out he's a human.
His very SOUL could give him away, as it's still the right side-up heart shape and instead of being pure white, it's a deep blue, shining strong with Integrity. And unlike normal Monsters who are made of magic and dust, Moomore is still made of flesh and bone, has a heartbeat alongside his SOULbeat, and bleeds when injured.
And speaking of magic... monsters can't seem to use theirs lately. Huh. No time to wonder why, since Dal can evidently use magic himself. Maybe he's got a surplus since he doesn't need any magic to... y'know. Make up his body n' stuff...
Why keep his humanity hidden? Because the humans that appeared in the Monster world before Dal were seen as bad omens, and all of them were killed before too long. It has been a long time since a human last arrived in the Monster world, so most people wouldn't notice a thing, but Moomore isn't the type to take such a risk, especially if his life would literally be on the line. Which it is.
But the questions remain... Why is Dalex here? Why'd he lose his memory? How much has he really forgotten? Why do Monsters see humans as "bad omens?" Why are humans even appearing in this world at all, when it's clear that Monsters don't want them around? Can Dal really trust anyone in this world? Will Dal be able to hide in plain sight, or will he be caught and inevitably killed?
And most importantly... if we're throwing PMD aspects into this adventure, that means Dal's the Hero... so who's the Partner? :3c
