The many moons of Cirque du Soleil
African Goddess Moon Rising ~
Blow kisses to Artemis, Hecate, and Selene to celebrate the full moon. 🌚
Starlight, star bright,
The first star I see tonight.
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Get the wish I wish tonight.
I wish Artemis to know,
I would never do her so.
I would never hex the Moon,
And those who did, be showed soon.
I wish her beauty, and her grace
Smack them in their face.
For those who tried to hurt the Moon,
May you have what comes to you soon.
She is our mother, our sister, our ohana,
You may think this hurt, but her wrath is guna.
For all the Moon Goddesses who were maimed,
May they hope for your forgiveness to be tame.
I would never hurt one so dear,
I am a witch, and I never fear.
The wrath of the Goddess,
Like the beautiful Artemis.

White Rose Week Day 4: Goddesses AU
Weiss was the daughter of a very powerful noble family, one which got where they were thanks to their own hard work and cunning, lest anyone forget. They did not have time for such ideas as divine blessings or depending on fortune to get what you want, true success came from the plans you made yourself and from taking away that which let your competition succeed. That did not mean Weiss agreed with her family’s philosophy, though much like her parents and siblings she was quite happy with the benefits it brought them.
Nevertheless, every night she would lie in bed and wonder what her fate in life would eventually be. Would she just be another cut throat business owner like her father, or a docile trophy wife like her mother had been reduced to? Neither sounded very good, but she didn’t know if she had any skills that would help her in any other line of work. So she would just look out her window at the moon. For whatever reason, she preferred the sight of a crescent moon above any other, even if the full moon was meant to be the most complete phase. So against everything her parents had taught her, she prayed to the moon for guidance and advice. It never yielded any sort of divine results, but it made her feel better, and talking things out often helped her realize a solution on her own.
Eventually, Weiss came to the realization that she wished to leave her family’s estate and see the world so she might find her place in it. Of course, this was easier said than done, and saying so to her father was even harder still. That night, cheek still stinging and red from his sign of disapproval, she sat by her window and wept.
“H-hey, it’s okay! Please don’t cry...” came a gentle but nervous voice. Considering her father had locked her in her room, the sound of this new voice was very confusing and got Weiss’ attention immediately. As she looked around, she saw very little except the light of the moon on her floor. Was it... shining stronger than usual? Before she could fully process what was happening, the glow became blinding and she had to cover her eyes. When she finally opened them again, a young woman stood before her, pale skin and silver eyes glowing like moonlight and contrasting heavily with the blood red cloak draped over her flowing white dress. The thing that stood out the most was honestly her dark hair with tinges of red. “Hello Weiss...” greeted the ethereal looking stranger. “I am Ruby, the goddess of the crescent moon, half moon and blood moon. I have seen you pray to me so often and wished to aid you in your time of need.”
Weiss just stared at the so-called goddess for about a minute. “That has got to be the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. A moon goddess?” She asked incredulously, tears now replaced with a look of annoyance and confusion.
“Awwww, c’mon!! I appeared in a beam of moonlight and everything!!” Ruby whined, pouting and hiding her face in her cloak. Truly, a goddess made flesh... “I... admit, I can’t explain how you could have appeared any other way. And you are...” she almost said as beautiful as a goddess, but stopped herself when she realized how romantically charged that might sound. She settled for “glowing.” There were still a few things confusing her though. “Why does a moon goddess have black hair? And what’s with the red cape?” Ruby was a bit miffed to be ridiculed by still answered. “It’s not my fault I don’t have gorgeously appropriate hair like you!” She said, blushing immediately when she realized what she had just said, but after a moment pressed on. “My hair is symbolic of the part of the moon that’s not illuminated with a crescent or half moon. And my cape is so you know I’m also the goddess of blood moons. Plus I think it looks really cool...”
Weiss nodded, the answers making sense to her and the gravity of her situation finally starting to land. “Oh wow...” Satisfied that she was being taken seriously, Ruby smiled and came a bit closer. “Your years of devoted prayer will not go unrewarded, because I have an offer you’d have to be crazy to refuse!” A bit humbled by the realization this really was a goddess before her, and entranced by her visitor’s gentle aura, Weiss listened intently as she began. “See, my dad is the god of the Sun, but he retired recently and my big sister got his job. But the thing is, she and I were partner goddesses for the moon. She had the full moon and gibbous moons, and I have the crescent and half moons, but now she’s gone so we need a new moon goddess. And so I went to my dad and I said “can I please get my most devoted patron to become my new co-goddess???” And he said I could!! Which is great because I think you’d look really pretty as a moon goddess! So, how about it??”
To say that Weiss was utterly speechless would be an understatement. She had barely been able to keep up with this woman’s explanation, and what she was able to comprehend sounded unbelievable. “You... want to make me a goddess of the moon like you?” Ruby nodded eagerly in response. “Yeah! We can see the whole world together, cuz the moon travels everywhere! All the most beautiful places, and you get to see them from the sky! I remember... you always wanted to see what else was out there. So, do you trust me?” The goddess asked, tentatively holding out a hand. Weiss thought about it. A whole new world, and she would get to explore it forever with this adorable girl. This girl, this goddess who had been her only friend for all these lonely years. “Of course, Ruby. I’d love to.” Weiss took Ruby’s hand, and the two dissolved into starlight.
The story of the two moon goddesses, so different on temper but united in their love for each other and the world they watched over, spread quickly. After all, the moonlight is for lovers~
